FS[Northeast]: 2003 Evo 8 = 83k Miles 9k OBO
#1
2003 Evo 8 = 83k Miles 9k OBO
*Sale Pending
$8,000 *without the extra tires, +$500 with
2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8
83.3k Miles
VIN: JA3AH86FX3U088199
*The Good News = Clean Carfax, 2nd owner, car is pretty clean, I didn't mod it with anything junky. I was close to pulling the trigger on a stock form turbo (BBK Full) but at that time my friends were getting out of the car thing and getting into bikes so that money went towards a bike instead. The car only has BPU (Basic Performance Upgrades) mods:
-272/272 HKS Cams
-Upgraded Fuel Pump
-Buschur Intake
-New Amsoil Air Filter (Same thing as Buschur's but cheaper) http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produc...de=EAAU4560-EA
-Buschur Exhaust = 3" Turbo back with high flow cat... (I didn't know at the time that the Evo can be programmed to pass all emissions tests)
-Stock Turbo tuned with a MBC to hit 24 boost then drop to 20'ish
-New Brakes
-New Rotors
-4k miles on Exedy Twin Disc Clutch
-4k miles on 2.0L Mitsubishi OEM shortblock, with rod knock.
-Sanded + Freshly engine enamel painted + clear coated calipers as per the evolutionm thread except I didn't repurchase a Brembo sticker to place in between the red paint and the clear coat. After painting the calipers, I kind of preferred not having the Brembo sticker; however one could be purchased and placed on top of the clear coat if desired.
-Radio/CD/DVD/USB (Avi files) player with screen + Upgraded front speakers.
-This includes a USB with +800 music videos (from Youtube on it). I can also show you how to add and remove the music videos and create playlists. The DVD player is hooked up so the video/music will still play when the car is moving or in gear, unlike most DVD players. It isn't too distracting to have up while driving, but you can also retract the screen down and the videos/music will still play. Here are two brief videos of the DVD player screen.

*The current tires on the car don't have much life left, but they aren't in hazardous condition. I have 4 brand new never installed and still banded together all season 235/45ZR-17 Continental Extremecontact DWS $617 shipped from Tire Rack. These aren't part of the asking price, but I can include them for an extra $500 ($117 discount).
*It was outdoor kept and drove in Winter, so expect some rust underneath. Aside from underneath the only visible spot of rust is under the left inner side of the wing, but other than that the paint is clean and complimented on. If you want more rust clarification or pictures then inquire with your PM.
*Misc Damage = I'm probably being a little too honest by mentioning these (most sellers would probably check these off as being wear and tear), but nothing major for the car being an 03 and if you are standing more than 5'ish feet away from the car it would be tough to notice. My pictures show these defects and to notice most of them you would have to zoom in to see, but even then you still might not notice them.
-Few paint chips (not from rocks on the road) on drivers door from dealership, but they denied that they caused it.
-My car was tagged in the parking lot as this girl was parking. I wasn't around when it happened, but at least she left a note. Not much damage to my car, she hit perfectly between my driver's side rear tire + wheelwell area.
-Bottom part of the front bumper is scraped up from parking in the city and has a slight crack.
-Outer part of the rims are a little chewed up from the previous owner, plus a few from me parking in the city.
-5 years ago a rock came off a Semi-trailer truck and floated over quite far until it hit my windshield. It caused a small chip/defect only on the inside of the glass. The glass is smooth on both sides... It never cracked and has kept the same condition since so I left it alone.
-The clear coat on the inside of the wing peeled a little. I would fix it myself, but I don't have much experience and would hate to mess it up (I'm guessing you: clean it -> sand it -> clean it -> reclear coat it -> let dry a day or two -> polish it -> wax it ?).
-Misc Rust = It was outdoor kept.
*The Bad News listed after the pictures.
-The Bad News = Short Version: New 2.0L Mitsubishi OEM shortblock with 4k miles has rod knock (Most likely due to overheating from a stuck thermostat). I hate to get rid of the car, but I'm taking this as a sign that I should move on and that would of course be in a vehicle that will be depressing to drive compared to an Evo... Perfect car for someone looking to build an engine or someone who wanted a clean Evo and had the money + time to toss in a $3k stock short block or pay someone to do it.
-Long Version: I had the timing belt done at like 20k miles while I was getting the cams install and was told they wouldn't charge me on labor for the install. I was new to cars and had tons of money, so everyone was talking about the Kevlar timing belts. I know now that was just a waste of money, anyway moving along with the story. I was nearing 80k miles so I wanted to get the timing belt replaced. My mechanic buddy was busy at the time, but that week I had time to kill, so I just dropped my car off at the dealership figuring no big deal. That was a wrong decision, and the mechanic who worked on my car screwed up my engine. Long story short it cost me a lot of time and money, but feel free to read about that in the link below. A new 2.0L Mitsubishi OEM short block was installed at Buschur and I have all the paperwork for that.

This past Winter + Spring, I didn't drive the car much, maybe once a month, sometimes twice. Recently I replaced the brakes + rotors + repainted the calipers + oil change. While bedding in the brakes the car started rod knocking on the new engine, which only had 4k miles on it... I asked around the forums / local mechanics and based on my story they think it was due to the engine overheating and I didn't catch it in time. Best guess is the thermostat got stuck from me driving it infrequently. So far I only had my mechanic friend look at it because I don't trust any dealerships to look at it and Buschur + CBRD are both over a 2.5 hour drive. I could limp the car there and back or I could pay $150 one way to have it towed, but any new information that would possible be discovered wouldn't really make a difference.

All PMs are replied to, thanks for the interests.
-A New Exedy Twin Disc Clutch was also installed at Buschur when the new OEM short block was put in, so 4k miles on the clutch.
-The rod knock starts at 2k'ish. I didn't drive the car much in this condition, as to not press my luck, but it is perfectly drivable.

+$500 for the extra tires ($617 brand new from TireRack so that is $117 of instant savings to you.)
*It was outdoor kept and drove in the Winter, so expect rust underneath. I feel the rust is an acceptable amount for a daily driver. Aside from underneath the only visible spot of rust is under the left inner side of the wing, but other than that the paint is clean and complimented on. If you want more rust clarification/pictures then PM me.
-All PMs responded to.
-I'm finally caught up on PMs and emails, so feel free to ask me anymore questions that you may have.
