10.5 hotside

I am in search of a 10.5 hotside for my 71hta chra. Upon further inspection of the 10.5 hotside I currently have I noticed stress cracks within the housing. This is no bueno for a dedicated track car. Paypal ready!

Good luck! I've been on the hunt for a used 10.5 housing to mate with a 71HTA and have struck out several times. They're all cracked! I hope you find one man.

It's the reason companies like FP don't offer them any more on new turbos. You can't get them new from MHI and according to Mike at MAP, at least one out of 3 turbos sent in for rebuilds were cracked and they couldn't keep up with demand for new MHI housings.

I'm ready to cave in and just buy one:

Thanks! Yeah I've got my 8 turbo 9.8 housing currently attach to the 9 turbo I ran last season. For how fast the the 71hta spools I either need an AS cover w/ intake tube or break down and do what you did and go either 10.5 or the 11.5 housing from Kinugawa.

Yeah I can't believe how many OEM covers are cracked...all in the same spot right after the volute opens. And people bash the questionable quality of aftermarket options when the majority of MHI housings all crack!

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think I'm just gonna order an 11.5 TD05HR housing and get a billet 16g replacement wheel for my stock 9 turbo I have sitting here. Nobody's tried it and it could be a viable, basic +1 upgrade for the stock 9 turbo for little money, just a rebalance.

I like your idea of the 11.5 housing mated with the 71HTA chra...hmm you may be onto something. Sorry for thread jacking, btw haha

Do you have a picture of where they crack? I have a spare 9 turbo and a 8.5 mr turbo. I was also going to upgrade with the 71hta chra. So i can check it after work.

Agreed on all points. Also if I do get an 11.5 housing I am hoping that it will give me a flatter powerband than I have now.

I believe the cracked MHI housing thing is being over blown here. If you have one, use it rather than take your chances with an ebay 11.5 hotside and you'll be fine.

A housing with stress cracks on a track car that runs a turbo harder than a daily driven car is not a smart idea.

I suppose I'll have to agree to disagree about this, I don't see this coming up as a show stopper before a dyno day, or race day event. This is just a normal event that MHI turbos go through as witnessed by the mass numbers of 8/9 turbos with these cracks and will likely go on to last well over 100k miles.Ever seen an old DSM hotside? It'll look like hell, but still run like a scalded dog. If a good housing is found, then by all means ****** it up and good luck with the search.

I have an uncracked 10.5 hotside. Only problem is that the flange mating to the manifold had broken bolts so the holes have been drilled and are ovalized but worked fine with just bolts rather than studs.

I removed the hot and cold sides and rebuilt the chra with parts from kinugawa and have had no problems. Went with the td06sl2r 11.5 hotside and the 11blade turbine wheel, also went with the 20g cold side housing and 20g billet wheel with the extended tips and taller blades. Turbo was an awesome upgrade over stock. That turbo is for sale also if anyone is interested. P.m. me..
