I will absolutely agree the search function needs revised BAD. People always moan and tell others to search but its hard when it dosent even search for the things that you are looking for, and im not going to search through 100s of pages to find what i am looking for period.

Just some thoughts on improving Search capabilities:
- Create a "Help with Search" page with procedures, tips and tricks for successful searching. (i.e. like the use of quotes to search on specific phrases). Other examples:
-- The '-' sign to exclude words.
-- Wildcards are supported (i.e. "carbon fib*", to catch both 'fibre' and 'fiber')
- Ability to save named searches to your profile, like you can in eBay?
- In "Search in Forums":
-- Make it bigger so can see more at a time (too much scrolling).
-- Make a note that in "Search in Forums", you can select multiple individual entries by holding Ctrl key, or ranges with Shift key.
-- Maybe break it up into sub-sections (i.e. separate Technical forums from Marketplace forums).
-- Alternatively, have a button to enable/disable a search query from hitting any of the FS forums.

sux really bad, i put up a thread entitled, "major install done by ME" i put it in "evo general".. an hour later i went to search for my thread in "evo general".. the mods moved it where it should have gone... I didn't kno this at the time so i searched, word for word the name of my thread, after 47 pages of looking(i guess i was bored) i started searching threw different thread topics and found it... how can i be WORD FOR WORD and not have the correct thread pop up??? weird

I searched for "major install' in title using advanced search. You could also search for your threads/post on your user-name. Hope this helps.

i did a search for "knock sensor" in the forsale forum, newest post is from 2005.
the "___" only work for someone who knows the exact phrase that they're looking for. but for someone who wants to search for a problem with their car and is trying to describe the symptoms, it can be phrased differently by different people.
