source for helmet?
hey guys i was wondering if any of you DFW people knew were a good source for a SCCA approved helmet is? and i know that SCCA is not the certifier, i think it is SNELL and or DOT, either way i need a helmet and would much rather try a few on and buy locally then order online and get the wrong size/fit.
just realized that for the autocross sunday i no long can use my dads helmet for racing.
names and directions would be nice... thanks!

I got a helmet from Day Motorsports in Tyler. That might be a bit far, but I had a good experience ordering with them.

Also, make sure of the certifications you need since there are DOT, Snell M, and Snell SA ones. Most "real" racing groups will want a Snell ceritified helmet, which I think is not as stringent as Snell. Shoei helmets are probably Snell M (motorcycle) certified, which some road-race organizations may or may not accept. If they just say Snell, then M or SA will be good, but some organizations will specify you have to use SA (speical application).
This site has a little description of the differences between the certifications:

I'd heard from someone that motorcycle helmets tended to be taller due to more protection on the top of the head since a motorcycle rider is more likely to be thrown from their bike and land on the top of their head. With any helmet be sure to check to make sure you can not only fit into the helmet, but also into the car with the helmet on when seated in your racing position.

Call Jason. The Motocycle dealership he works for sells helmets that will work for Autocross.
If you don't get one in time, you can always barrow one at the event Sunday.
