Moving to Dallas/FW in October.

Hello All:

Well, I'm taking the plunge to moving outside of expensive LA. I've accepted a job in the Dallas area and I'm bringing my beloved EVO 8 with me!

I am looking for some information on tuners, dynojet dynos, good dealers for service, excellent parts install mechanic shops that stand by their work (i.e. RRE-type shops), places where I can get 100 octane, meets, and tracks (both quarter-mile and roadracing)..

Thanks,

-M

Where in DFW is your new job located?

Dealerships - Don Herring Mitsu - Plano and Irving - they sponser the North Texas Evo Club and take good care of us.

Tuners - KevinD is local and does a LOT (sometimes too much according to his girlfriend) of work on our cars. Performance related installs, tuning, etc.

Shops - Someone just joined, thread should be on here, Gotham Racing if memory serves me correctly. I've not had personal experience with them, but seem to have some positive feedback from others.

Meets - Posted here or www.ntexasevos.org

Tracks - 1/4 mile = Ennis, Road Racing is Motorsport Ranch. There are some others, but I don't race so I don't know them all.

100 octane - no idea

I'll actually be living in Plano.

Great! I'll schedule an appointment with them for an oil change when I get there!

Tuners - KevinD is local and does a LOT (sometimes too much according to his girlfriend) of work on our cars. Performance related installs, tuning, etc.
Does KevinD tune on the street or dyno? I'm not a big fan of street tuning only because you don't know what your power is sitting at.

Meets - Posted here or www.ntexasevos.org
I'll visit that link.

Thanks for the info!

1. You planning to buy or rent? I'd be happy to throw out some suggestions, I've lived in the area since 2000.
2. www.donherring.com - I bought my car from them 2 years ago, been back for all my regular service. Several people know me by name....great folks.
3. Can do either.

*cough*

Excuse me, sir, but you can tell your eyes to go to hell, because there will be NO breaks for them! They have to deal with Texas womenfolk now!

Welcome by the way, drop by the meets sometime!

Lots of shops in Dallas... I can personally recommend
Jotech, and Gotham Racing... I have personal Experience at Jotech and Gotham is new but seem to be awesome guys.
KevinD is definitely the man to go to for a tune.. I believe he can do both dyno and street tunes.
Dealerships go to no one else but Don Herring!
Definitely stop by NTEC meets!

Welcome to Texas. I moved here from SD a few years ago. Texas is a lot cheaper and you will find the people here are great. There are a few good tuners here in the state. I talked to you on the other forum before. If you get some time swing down to SA. Good luck on your move.

For tracks:

http://www.motorsportranch.com
http://www.hallettracing.com
http://www.eaglescanyon.com
http://www.racersranch.com

I'm not sure the current status of Eagle's Canyon and Racer's Ranch (may not be open yet).
If you like to run 10/10ths, there's not much to hit at MSR.

For track time:

http://www.thedriversedge.net
http://www.apexdrivingacademy.com
http://mav.pca.org
http://www.lscbmwcca.org

For RRE-type set-up in the area, the closest I can think of is:
http://www.performancespeedtech.com
http://www.rufautocentre.com

In either case, bring your wallet. I'd suspect that PST has a bit more experience with Evos and other sedan/touring set-ups. Personally, I prefer to do my own tweaking. If I were in your position, I'd probably get my car sorted/baselined with RRE before moving.

I can't help much with tuners, drag racing, or smelly fuel.

Welcome to Texas!

Don't expect to see the insanely huge Evo meets here that you guys get out there - do expect to no longer be hassled for having a "street racer package" unless you're just being utterly silly on the street. It's also much easier to leave the kitty at home here.

i can do either street or dyno tune. most of the tuning i do is on the street, and i can give you before and after power estimates using datalog lab.

otherwise we can arrange to do the tune on a dyno as well. gotham has a AWD mustang dyno and they have been awsome to work with thus far.
