Calling All Texas EVOs....To Float The Guadalupe River
I know this is an early announcement for the event, but it gives everyone time to schedule it, plus I will keep bumping this thread every once in awhile to keep ya'll updated. So here goes:
For the past 4 years I have organized a Guadalupe Float with friends and co-workers, and the event continues to grow. Now, being involved in such a great car community, I'm extending the invitation to all Texas EVOs. That includes Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Ft. Hood, Austin, and everywhere in between.
The official date will be the weekend of JUNE 27th-28th. We will float on Saturday the 27th AND Sunday the 28th, so you might want to ask off of work on Monday the 29th. Of course if you can't handle the power of both days, you are more than welcome to just float one day.
I will not be in my EVO, too many camping things for our small trunk to handle (aka boombox). I will be in a lowered charcoal grey dodge ram 1500 with 20 inch chrome wheels. Also, look for a Ford F-150 5.4 Triton Charcoal Grey truck. Reason being, we might be down chillin in the river (about 50 yards from our camp site) as everyone is trickling in so we might not be at the actuall camp site, so just look for those trucks and start setting up shop. Of course I will have my cell phone on me so no worries, just call if you have a question.
Here is my cell phone number: 817-789-0656, ask for JJ.
HERE IS THE OFFICAL PLAN:
1. Late Thursday, June 25th, afternoon I will be leaving down to New Braunfels to claim the camping spot for the weekend.
2. Normally, everyone starts arriving at all different times the next day (which will be Friday, June 26th). Don't worry if you leave after work on Friday, we stay up very very late.
3. Around 10:30am Saturday, June 27th we will begin floating the river. But since the river is so low this year we will be floating a different portion of the river. We will have to drive 15 miles up river to the famous horseshoe and set off there. The long float will last around 6.5 hours, (which is what we would have floated anyway)
4. At the end of the float the tubing outfit will bus us back to the starting point, in which we will drive back to the camp site and party all night.
5. Sunday, June 28th, we will basically repeat Saturday all over again.
6. Either Sunday night you can drive home, or Monday morning you can drive home (but you will have to pay for an extra day of camping). That will be your call.
7. As for car groups driving/cruises down together, I will leave that up to ya'll to plan. I will already be at the camp grounds, chillin in the river, waiting on ya'll drinking my crown n coke.
I have attached maps to the camp grounds and of the camp grounds below:
Map inside the camp grounds where we will be camping:
Here is the website of the campgrounds, http://www.camphuacosprings.com
Camp Huaco Springs
4150 River Road
New Braunfels, TX 78132
1-888-GO-CAMPN -Toll-free
Here is the company we will use to rent tubes, http://www.riversportstubes.com/
River Sports Tubes
12034 FM 306
(Intersection: FM 306 at FM 2673)
Canyon Lake, Texas 78133
1-830-964-2450
All previous rules apply:
1. Bring all your own food, tents, grills, blankets, pillows, camping equipment, beer, food, ice, etc. No mooching! Your responsible for yourself.
2. Tube rentals are as follows: 15 bucks for a tube without a bottom a day
17 bucks for a tube with a bottom a day (highly recommended)
3. Camping fees: 30 bucks a night for 1 car up to 4 people (3 nights = $90 for camping / by 4 people = $22.50 a person for camping for the whole trip)
So car pooling is recommended to cut the price down
But if you can't roughneck it by camping, there are motels and hotels in New Braunfels to stay at. Of course you will have to meet us at Huaco Falls when we start the float.
Just to give a heads up to everyone questioning the rules of the Guadalupe river, THERE ARE NONE, except no glass and no styrofoam. Yes you can bring beer bongs, jello shots, as much beer as you can float, and a cooler as big as you want, and you can bring a boombox and play music as loud as you want. (don't worry about that, I got that covered). All the rule changes are for the Comal River and part of the Guadalupe River which flows within the city limits of New Braunfels (which we will not float in).

thats a bad *** stereo!
I have the following to contribute:
1. Dad works for Dr Pepper, so i can bring sodas(too bad he doesn't work for budweiser)
2. My neighbors gf is a budweiser girl, so i can see what she can do as well
3. I have a 12 person (3 room) tent i can bring that we can setup. Its pretty sick
4. I have a bad *** floating cooler that can hold a good 24 pack, its made for the river so we usually just tie a rope to it and throw it in.
im totally down for this..probably plus 7 for me.

man..i won't even step foot in a motel. when i go to the river we usually float it in san antonio and i get a pretty cheap rate at the mariott on the riverwalk. i think last year it was 50 bucks a night per room which wasn't bad. But i don't mind roughing it in the woods either.

I'm in for all the above..BIG thanks to JJ for another great NTEC plan...
i can't imagine a Hill Country Trip w/out a Hill Country Cruise
no doubt TxEvo8 can find us some great twisties for the first day (before the 'hang-over' from the float day
also
another great day on the river if someone wants MORE action, would be
a canoe trip down the white water of the Guadelupe River
my one trip doing the rapids is very comparible to the wildest sailing i've ever experienced !!
how much can we cram into one weekend???
i will volunteer to lead anyone down to Austin via my secret
6M TOUR
through the twisties w/no I-35 traffic or DPS....hmmmm
