Insurance/Ticket help
I recieved a ticket in Athens, Ga a two weeks ago and have some questions. I was speeding and have no problem paying the fine, but I am nervous about insurance increases. I am 19 and this is my first ticket. The ticket was for 18mph over, and 14-18 over in Ga is a 2 point infraction.
Does anyone know if there is a deferral program and how/who do I ask to be a part of the program? If I talk to the solicitor and get it lowered to where it is still speeding but no points are assessed, will my insurance be able to see the speeding infraction on my record and do you think they will raise my rates? What exactly would a nolo plea do for me(if the jusge accepts the plea), will it lower the speed so no points are asessed or cause the ticket to be dropped?
Sorry about the number of questions and I realize they are not all black and white,
but any help is appreciated.
Thanks

You don't need to plead "no lo". Use it for something important. Your ticket is not that bad at all. I live in Athens and the cops are kinda strict around here.I got a 40 over ticket on loop 10 in Nov. It was a $300 fine for me, and I almost went to jail(married 28 yr old). I couldn't even use "no lo" cause it was so bad. I didn't even know I was going that fast. I was just speeding up to pass someone. Really taught me to be careful and watch my speed. I will probably get hit hard on my insurance.

Did the cop already give you a break at 18mph over? If not, ask the judge to lower it to 14mph in exchange for a guilty plea. If he accepts there will be no points and it will not go against your record or insurance. So many students there hopefully the judge will give you a break...GL.

No breaks for me-except for not going to jail. They can take you to jail for 40 over. I got really lucky. I wasn't even trying to go fast. I just dropped a gear and passed someone and must have gotten up to speed very quickly. I learned my lesson! I didn't have a lawyer. I talked to one and they said i would more than likely get the same judgement with or without one representing me. I possibly could have gotten the points dropped but the lawyer fees alone would have been $750. We'll see if it was worth it in the long run.

I had a ticket the day after last thanksgiving, it was 32MPH over the limit and according to FL laws I had to go to court to get the speeding fine, traffic school, license points, etc. I called one of those traffic lawyers and he charged me $56, he represented me at court (I didn't even had to be there), the judge dismissed the case so I still have a clean record.
You should contact one of those lawyers.
