a red evo 9 that i havent seen before parked next to me at the FC chowhall at 7 day, that any of yours?

i think im going to go print out a bunch of little slips of paper with the link of this forum thread and put them under the wipers of all the evos i see around. might as well draw everyone in so we can get like a 1nc a week or every other week meet goin on in the future.

Ok so pulled the car into the garage and pulled the wires. Here's what I noticed and hopefully I can get some comments.

First: The plugs are BPR7ES. Is that too cold? Isn't stock heat range 9 and a step colder is 8? They are gapped to 28.

Here's what the bottom of the spark plug looks like. It's white and kind of sooty.



Second the middle part inside the plug wire came off when I pulled it off:






Should I try to put it back together or just get another set of plug wires?? I've never had that part come out before so not sure if this is a regular occurrence.

I think WRX guys do that. I'm pretty sure I saw something like that a while ago on clubWRX.net. It's a good idea. If you get something made up post it here. I'll print some and keep them with me.

K. ill get on it, i may wait till i get home on the 96 so my dad can help me make up a cool little banner. (he is a graphic designer)

also, anyone know if the auto hobby shop on base can compress valve springs right? if so i think im going to get new cams and install them myself.

BPR7ESs are fine...thats the stock heat range plug I used to run in my GSX too...I ran 8s for a little while...that is a heat range colder... & 9 is even colder...I would def. buy a new set of wires & not try to repair the one you pulled apart...

I would double check about any cams you're planning on getting to see if you need the upgraded springs or not. No sense spending money if you don't need to right?

Oh sorry I had the numbers backward (I'm exhausted, but trying to get some answers to this problem). So considering my mods I should probably opt for a step colder plug huh? What should I gap them? I've heard some people say like 0.24 or somewhere around there.

And as far as I know the plugs are relatively new. Since I'm new to the car I'm trying to get things checked out that I would have done to the car by now. And get the tune under control of course.

BPR7ESs are fine for your mods...By looking at your a/f from the dyno sheet you posted I would look into a tune soon...Since its your DD I would look into a tune with your a/f between 11-11.5...looks like your more in the mid to low 10 range...

Thanks for the help.

I have an extra set of stock plug wires on my other Evo (that's just sitting) that I can use for now. I think those only have like 20k miles on them. What about the gap? 0.28 is fine?

So is National Speed a good place to get tuned? This Saturday is the only time I've ever been there so I don't know too much about them. They are going to give me a discount on whatever for backing my car up into the back of the dyno area. So I'm sure I can work out a good deal on a custom tune by them.

Also the car will just sit in the garage for now. I don't NEED to drive it at all (although I definitely want to). So until I can get the tune thing settled I'll probably let it rock out in the garage.

That gap should be fine...if ur looking to get tuned somewhat locally I would pm justin @ force-fed perf. They are out of fayetteville....

Well after what happened with my dyno I'm gonna get a good discount on whatever I decide to do at National Speed. But if you think it's a better idea to go to Force Fed I can do that. I want to go to a place that knows Evo's. Like I understand some people are great tuners. But I would prefer the tuner to have experience with Evo's.

I have to go to Chapel Hill in the beginning of March so if there is a good shop in Raleigh I can always go there. Although I would rather get this taken care of before then.

I keep gettin suggested Kelford 272s. ^ i just want to play it really safe but i guess the stock will be fine till i get more power, and i dont plan on revin over oem any really. Ive been readin around and cam gears seem like they could be worth the money, and their another easy install to get a little more power. any thoughts?

have fun at mountain sniper lol... should be reeeaalll nice this time of year. but seriously good luck.
