Speeding tickets!!!!!
well, just got one this morning. Unmarked car tail gating a truck. I mistakened it for a local there with the exact same colour, make and model ARGH! He really should re-paint his crown vic. I was only doing 15 over and it was a 52$ charge with no demarit points. Does anyone know if this will affect my insurance. Its my first one.
btw, how many have you guys had?

Any speeding ticket (as long as you are convicted) and anything against the Highway Traffic Act will affect your insurance to some degree.
Fortunately, this one ticket shouldn't affect you too much (if at all). But, be careful, because if you start to accumulate convictions of speeding, your insurance could skyrocket.
You COULD try to fight the ticket, if you think it was unreasonable.
I wouldn't sweat too much about this though.

If you fight, your court date will take a year, so dont worry you can sleep easy with your insurance for now. but like The ay said, it wont hurt much even at 15 over.

From another forum:
Might help delay/prevent the inevitable?
I've got 0 tickets so I wouldn't have personal experience
If you got the ticket in Toronto I know how you can get out of it (66% chance by my results)....it is time intensive though! Worst case scenerio is you end up having to plead guilty and pay $20 in court costs....but it also delays the ticket by about a year so it's worth it.
Here's how I did it:
I ticked option 3 on the ticket, had to go request a court date in person. I waited about 6 months and they sent me a court date in the mail (ticket in October, courtdate in July) this is a pretty average timeline for Toronto. When you get the letter informing you of your court date wait about 3 weeks to a month to go to the courthouse and request "discolsure" (this is the evidence they have against you, basically the cop's notes and it's free to get). Toronto is so backlogged majority of the time they take months to get you your discolsure. I requested mine in mid May and they called me in August to pick it up!
Here's the tricky part....court time! It depends on your prosacutor, but I asked mine if I could get another date (adjurnment) as I had not recieved my disclosure. Prosacutor said "ok". I get called up infront of the judge, proscutor says "request for dismissal as disclosure has not been given" and bam, ticket is tossed.
This has worked for me and a friend. One friend had his court date adjurned to another date, so he was dead in the water. He had a simular story to you, 20km over but cop gave him a 10km ticket. 2nd court date he asked to plead guilty to the ticket, his $50 fine was reduced to $20....tack on the $20 in court costs he saved himself $10 and he ate up a year and a half of time.
Make sure you keep all paper work, especially your request for discolsure.

your service can only help you. mention that in court. shop up with some kind of (formal gear) procecuter clerk will break you a deal. if your deployment or location is a problem, I think there might be some provisions that will help. I think, ask a court guy for advise

as for getting posted, as all court cases you have to go to the jurisdiction that issued the ticket.. even if you get posted its on you to attend or send a representative (lawyer or one of those speeding ticket places) to show up. they wont move the location for you..

I drove my Army buddy to court once, he was booked for speeding even though he was racing, it was over $100 and like 4 points.
He showed up in full army uniform, walked in and fought it for 5 minutes, judge just shredded the ticket, didn't get any points either.

^ lol dont call them. Once your are convicted (either you sign your ticket or go to court) then it will show up on your insurance when they renew your policy.
Its a minor ticket so it wont affect your insurance if any and seen that it is your first, they wont care.
For the hell of it fight it, go to court. Be a learning experience for future tickets.

fudge... my first ticket was $290. it was not funny at all. i tried to fight for it but no luck.
one tip. do not speed along St. Catherines area. its a small town and they pretty much know each other. Po-po's always show up on court not like in T.O. No chance of winning unless your from around there. It pissed me off every time i think about it.
so with your $50+ ticket. don't lose sleep...
