ACP Earns Podium at Baie (Slowboy Rally)

Another podium for ACP at Rallye Baie des Chaleurs

NEW RICHMOND, Quebec (July 1, 2007) -- Andrew “ACP”
Comrie-Picard and co-driver Marc Goldfarb took yet another podium at the third round of the Canadian Rally Championship, the Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs.

That makes a podium success in each of the first three rounds for ACP in the team’s Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, prepared at Slowboy Racing in Indiana, PA.

“I’m proud of our record this season,” said Comrie-Picard. “It’s a very competitive field and this is an excellent showing for the team.”

The team had been in line for a win but turbo trouble early on Day 1 cost them almost three minutes. With the problem solved by the end of the night, they won all but one of the eight stages on Day 2. It wasn’t enough for victory, but Comrie-Picard said the team had to focus on a bigger goal.

“The X Games is just a few weeks away and we couldn’t afford to put everything on the line at this race,” he said. “We’ll be back at the next round with our game faces on.”

The team has been running a full season of Canadian and U.S. events and is one of only 12 teams from around the world to secure an invitation for the hugely popular ESPN X Games Rally, taking place this August.

“Our Yokohama tires were up to the challenge, as always,” said Comrie-Picard. “The conditions were unusually dry and our tires gave us the edge we needed to podium.”

First place went to defending Canadian champion Antoine L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard; the local team of Martin Gauvin and co-driver Daniel Duchesneau snagged a well-earned third in a Production 4-class Subaru Impreza.

The father-daughter team of Sylvain and Chloé Erickson, always a threat for the win in their Subaru Impreza WRX, were forced to retire during the first leg after a brush with a bridge and terminal engine troubles. In all, 21 teams out of 32 finished the rally.

The team makes its next appearance in Los Angeles from August 2nd to 5th at the ESPN X Games, broadcast on ESPN and ABC. The next round of the Canadian Rally Championship takes place on September 7 and 8 -- Rally Défi Ste-Agathe/Duhamel.

Rally car racing is considered the extreme sport of automobile racing and is often described simply as “real cars, real roads, real fast.” It’s an all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over courses that cover more than 100 miles of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads.

Full TV coverage Canadian Rally Championship airs on Chum/A Channel starting this fall. Coverage of the
2007 Rally America Championship and the 2007 Summer X Games airs on ABC and ESPN.
