The main difference between the core is the density of the fins of the Garrett core, we designed our core to provide optimal flow to the radiator while still keep the same cooling characteristics as the other coolers on the market. We have done tests with our core vs the garrett core and both provide the same results.
We use our core on not only the EVO, but cars like the DSM (1G, 2G, GVR4), 3000GT, 300ZX, Supra, RX7 etc. Car's that do not have stock front mount intercoolers and can't use a garrett core because they will over heat due to lack of airflow to the radiator.
Both cores are bar and plate and use staggered internal fins.

The 3.0" is good on the stock turbo, but I recommend running the 3.5" if you plan on running high boost on the stock turbo or plan on upgrading to a turbo that can flow around 600hp. If you plan on making more power then that the 4.0" is a good option.
