MAPerformance Releases 8740 Chromoly 4g63 Head Studs with Dog Point Feature!

MAPerformance Releases 8740 Chromoly 4g63 Head Studs with Dog Point Feature!

MAPerformance is proud to announce that our popular 4g63 head studs are now available in an 8740 chromoly material. These were designed for us by A1 Technologies specifically for applications up to 600whp in which our H11 tool steel Utimate Duty studs may be considered overkill by some

Much like our Ultimate Duty head studs these "High Performance" head studs are provisioned with a hex broach on the top of the stud (enabling you to install them with the cylinder head on the car if necessary) as well as the dog point feature that made our Ultimate Duty studs do popular.

What makes these head studs better than the competition?

The dog point feature (shown below) seats the stud in the block and preloads the fastener for an accurate and repeatable torque sequence. We also include the new ARP Ultra Torque assembly lubricant with each set. When it comes to head stud performance properly torquing the studs is paramount and we have made every effort to ensure torque precision and repeatability!

These studs are legit. I have mine torque'd to 105 ft/lbs and these hold 42psi on a 10:1 compression motor no problem

I think you may be referring to our Ultimate Duty / H11 / L19 studs sir, these 8740 studs are for more conservative applications, but I'm glad to hear they are working out well for you!

Was about to get another set of ARP's, but I saw these this morning. Just ordered a set and I can't wait to get them in the car!

Wouldn't this go against the typical recommendation from ARP that you should NOT tighten the studs into the block more than finger tight, before torquing them down?

Also, assuming the correct thread is tapped into the block and studs, shouldn't the load be equally spread across the threads evenly?

The bottom chamfer of the block that you're interfacing the stud with, is that a precision machined surface (like the threads are)?

Just a couple questions for the curious, is all...

These studs are not to be torqued into the block, that process will remain the same. However, if you look at the dog point illustration the top stud doesn't bottom out, rather it is the last thread on the stud that stops the threading into the block and concentrates stress on that thread when the stud is loaded. My understanding is that these studs will bottom out allowing for the stresses to be evenly distributed yielding a more accurate and repeatable torque.
