Powerflex Motor Mount Bushing

We would like to present a new product to the Evo 8 and 9 community that has been available for quite some time in the Evo 4,5,6, and 7 community in the UK and Europe.

Powerflex is a UK based company that is Europe's largest manufacturer of polyurethane suspension and vehicle components.

http://www.powerflex.co.uk/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The front motor mount for the Evo 4, 5, 6, and 7 is the same mount with identical fitment on all of those applications, but was never test fit onto an Evo 8, but we confirmed the fitment of this mount on a US spec Evo 8 at Forge Motorsport US earlier this week and would like to gauge the interest in this product within the US Evo community.

The Powerflex part number is PFF44-106

http://www.powerflex.co.uk/products....3&submit1.y=13

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bushing is made from a 75-80 durometer (I forget which exactly) polyurethane where the OEM rubber bushing is rated at about a 45-50 durometer rubber material (much softer) and the Powerflex kit comes supplied with a specific stainless steel sleeve and a packet of copper grease/anti-seize.

It is a direct replacement for the soft OEM front mount bushing and fits with absolutely no modification. Installation took us about 20 minutes. The most difficult part is removing the factory bushing from the mount. We basically had to destroy it to get it out, but once accomplished, the Powerflex bushing fits in easily.

Destroyed OEM bushing:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We installed this bushing onto a '05 GSR with numerous other modifications already installed, but we noticed an immediate improvement in shifter feel and on/off throttle vehicle response due to significantly reduced front-to-back movement of the engine under on/off throttle conditions.

The car seems to "buck" less under light throttle cruising (in a parking lot), and we noticed much less engine movement during the disengagement of the clutch under light throttle.

There is a very slight amount of increased vibration at idle only, which is to be expected, however, I must stress that this additional vibration is only felt through the steering wheel to the driver and passengers would never know that you changed anything if you didn't tell them what you did.

This vibration is so minor that I would hardly consider mentioning it if I didn't know that many of you would ask.

It is also to be expected that this initial increase in vibration will go away after a short period of time (a couple weeks) once the bushing settles in. This has been the case with every single Powerflex product we have ever used or sold as we sell their bushings for other applications as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To those of you concerned with replacing the rear motor mount as well, we would like to tell you that while doable for little extra money, the mount is in a very difficult location in the engine bay to reach and would require significant disassembly of the front subframe and suspension to replace with a matching Powerflex unit. It is hardly worth the trouble.

For this reason, and because the front motor mount alone provides a significant improvement in and of itself, we do not plan to offer the rear mount other than by special order only.

It is my opinion that the addition of the rear mount to the front will create a significant increase in vibration to the cabin in a more uncomfortable manner, but the benefits of having stiffer mounts will be improved.

Another thing to consider is that Powerflex offers 2 size mounts for the rear, and neither have been test fit to an Evo 8 or 9 as of yet to confirm which size is needed. We will consider doing this at the earliest opportunity, but we cannot say when at this time.

If someone would like to special order the rear mount, we will require that they provide us with the size required for their car.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pricing of this front motor mount bushing will be $50 (US Dollars after accounting for the exchange rate) plus shipping and tax where applicable.

Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in by starting a list in this thread, and we will place an order with Powerflex for some quantity.

Very tempting. I can't decide between doing this or an engine torque dampener.

Personally, you CAN install both, but they both serve the same function, and bushings typically do it for less money and with less additional components added to the engine. This replaces your OEM bushing, so it's a stealthy install!

Just my $0.02!

how about you break in the front mount and then install the rear about a few weeks later. Thats what I did on my VR6 jetta when I had full poly mounts all around. I added one at a time and the vibration was very minimal, I almost could not tell I had them in there. Other people installed all at once and said it was unbearable in their car. Oh well just a thought.

I am interested. Although since the cold weather has come, my idle seems to be rougher and I can feel and hear the vibration of the motor quite a bit more. I would just be worried of making it worse.

Count me in! Seems like a reasonable alternative to the ralliart mounts, at least installation wise.

BTW, why are all powerflexes mounts that gay purple color my lower control arm bushings were powerflex purple. Though, I bought them because they were the best.

Ralliart engine mount bushings are black, talk about stealth! Powerflex are you listening? JK... not really
