I have seen them offered shaved, but I cannot remmeber where.

As for the V710 are a different tire...closer related to a hoosier. They do not have a thread and have a shorter life. Grippier and better turn in I believe, but i also believe are meant for auto-x. Would have to verify. Basically a different type of tire

I notice this test was done with 275/35/18 tires. Is that the size that produces the fastest lap times for an Evo? What width were the wheels? I've heard other guys say they get faster lap times on 17x9" wheels, and that 18" wheels are just for bling. Now I'm talking road racing courses, not dragstrips.

Allowing for some suspension modifications, what size wheels and tires will give you the fastest lap times without having to modify the fenders?

It really depends on the driver. There isn't a specific size that will give you the fastest lap times. It comes down to if the driver can use the equipment he/she has to its full potential.

To answer your question about the wheel size, we were using 18x9 with a +30 offset. We had to roll the heck out of the fenders to get everything to fit. As far as which wheel size to go with, the best answer I could give you is to go with anything that is light weight and will fit the tire size you end up going with.

Okay, let me ask it a different way. Assume the following:
The driver can use the equipment to its full potential.
The fenders can't be rolled, and you can't have any rubbing.
You can install reasonably priced aftermarket suspension upgrades.
You can add negative camber.
You can add bigger brakes and race pads.
Now, holding everything else equal, what wheel and tire sizes will get you around a good road racing course the fastest?
I'm guessing it will be the biggest wheel/tire combo that will fit under unmodified fenders, but what size is that?
- Thanks

Indeed. With a 35mm offset. This seems to be the consensus for best size under unmolested fenders.

Anybody else?

You need to see what the sectional width of the NT01's are in 255/40/17 to make sure they will fit under stock fenders as some 255/40/17's wont. (Michelin pilot sport cups)

Enkei 8.5x17+40 (hard to find)....RPF-1 with the 245 nittos is FAST in a straight line and doesn't give up too much in the corners...(with good suspension)...don't make a 255 to my knowledge.....

I have a set of the "hard to find" 17x8.5"+40 RPF1's for sale Nice fitting wheel that is PERFECT for 245 or 255's. They are strong and light.

yeah i'm gonna wait on the 255 40 17, do you think 275 40 17 will fit on 17x9 +35 offset? Or should i just run the 245/45/17 for now on stock wheels?

The 275 really requires a 30 offset and some fender rolling. The 245/45/17 has a pretty high sidewall. The 255/40/17 is a really nice size that I think will sell well. I am going to get a set of 17x9s for my car and run 255/40/17 after I wear out my current set of 245/40/18.
