Sorry in advance if I'm missing the obvious (which I probably am) but I wanted to post this question rather than PM in case there were other noobs that were also trying to figure this out.

Currently-

Stock DP- JunBL 2.5" to 3" adapter- 3" JunBL testpipe- 3" JunBL Catback.

I plan on removing the testpipe and replacing with a HFC to reduce crusing noise and be a bit more environmentally friendly.

As I am keeping my stock downpipe, would it be possible to install a 3" HFC in this chain without hacking the flanges off the HFC and then adding v-bands? (I am assuming that a 3" HFC won't bolt up directly to the 2.5" stock DP.)

Thanks

i think the 3" HFC will bolt on the the stock downpipe but i'm not completely sure. then you can use the flange adapter to help bolt on the rest of the catback. well at least i hope it does because i will be looking at buying one.

I searched this question in the Engine/Turbo/Drivetrain section, but had no luck. (I'm sure someone will pop up with the answer from 20 threads of this same question )

If I can go to from the stock DP right to the 3" HFC, then, as you said, all I'll need is the 3" flange to 3" v-band adapter and will be good to go.

Hopefully, that's the ticket...

From talking with Wayne @ PPI, i am pretty sure you can get a 3" to 2.5" adapter flange that is vband on one end, and bolt up on the other end instead of just the 3"-3" one. Give him a call.

I've got the 2.5" to 3" for the stock DP to the Jun Test pipe....still need to confirm that a 3" HFC (ala Helix) can bolt to the stock DP

This might help:

Both cars were on winter/snow tires. I used a simple Radio Shack dB reader which is not state/federal approved although they do mention a margin of error from +/- 1-3% compared to the high-end devices that cost $1k+. All this was done with "C Weighting" which is closer to the human ear but WILL represent higher readings. All speed testing was done in-cabin with the windows up.

For instance the modded EVO at 70 mph with "A Weighting" would represent 79 db and the Stock EVO would represent 75 db at the same speed. "A Weighting" would represent a closer to real world number although I did not want to sugarcoat the results either.

Stock EVO9 with only the JunB.L catback system, no other mods that would affect sound.
60 mph = 95 db
70 mph = 96 db
80 mph = 97 db
Idle = 87 db
3k RPM constant = 97 db
Rev Limiter = 105-109 db

EVO8 with HKS 272's full downpipe, testpipe, open air filter, Invidia O2 housing, all stainless IC piping. Currently not tuned for this video.
60 mph = 96 db
70 mph = 98 db
80 mph = 98 db
Idle = 95 db
3k RPM constant = 104 db
Rev Limiter = 105-112 db

I was actually surprised at how similar the in-cabin of the 2 cars were. Videos will come very soon. Just need to spend some time editing those!

So i spent atleast another 4 hours trying to re-adjust and reposition the exhaust. Same result. No change in the way it looks. Anyone know where I can get kartboy hangers for cheap?
