There are high flow catalytic converters and then there is RANDOMTECH!!!

I got my unit on friday and i have to say that i am VERY impressed. It looks like a resonated testpipe, quite light and you can literally see through it!

It will replace my UR high flow cat...

I will install it next saturday along with my Nisei piping kit and then retune with Dynoflash. After this i will have almost every bolt-on on the car except exhaust manifold...

Why are you replacing the UR cat with the Random Technology? I currently have the UR and am curious if you have run into any issues with it. Thanks

The UR is not a metallic substrate cat but a ceramic... The randomtech is CARB approved...

I don't want the testpipe because i drive the car every day, so i wanted to get what is supposed to be one of the highest flow catalytic converters in the market...

I paid 300 something. Sometimes I prefer to get my stuff at a higher price, but i least i know i will get them when i am supposed to...

I will install it next saturday and i will try to take pictures of the two cats side by side...

The o2 will be placed on the bung that my catback has, probably along with a mechanical cel fix to secure 100% a non-existing SES...

I am expecting at least 5-7whp more than my previous cat. The Randomtech unit is rated at over 500cfm, against the 300 something cfm of the ceramic units, including the stock one... With this cat and the piping kit i will retune again. I am 100% sure that i will exceed 350whp on pump at 23psi...

 

how many CFM is a 3" test pipe rated at?

I wonder if Random Tech will make me a custom 3" diameter cat with custom lengths and flanges?

FYI, the Random Technologies cat is a 300 cell metal catalyst.

A 100 cell cat will flow even more.

 

Actually this is not always true...

maybe a cat is denser but the cells are thinner, or maybe the cat has less cells but there are thicker in order to operate, thus flowing the same...

It all depends on the name, quality, construction and type of cat...

 

Most of the high end European exhausts use 100 cell cats. Assuming the cats are of this level of quality, I would think they would flow more.

This by no means is a slam on Random Tech. They make great stuff.

 

I do not have a preference as to what exactly to buy, so I'm not bashing. I like the actual Random core for what it is, but do not like the flanges. I've had issues with the Random's flanges sealing, and the fact that they are perpendicular to the core, unlike the OE cats flanges. This has caused off sets in the fitment in a few systems.
