Tanabe Medalion (a lot of pics)

Well after some searching and comming accross a good deal, I decided to get the Tanabe Medalion.

This is only a cat-back exhaust, with 3" mendral bends stainless steel piping. It has the straight flow through muffler and 1 resonator. Also it has an o2 sensor bung.

There is what looks like a taper on the cat-back to downpipe connection. If you look at the picture its only about 1mm or even less than that. Its very close to 3" inner diameter at that part. They probably did that to slide the exhaust tip into the flange and then weld it from there....

Sound. Well it is a tad louder than stock but not by much. Its very live able with daily driving and hiqhway cruising. I can wisper in my car and the passenger can hear me. Heck they didnt even notice I put an exhaust on the car, but I notice it because its my car and I know how everything should feel/sound. Its a little difficult to describe the note, but its a deep muffled sound. When you get on the throttle the sound does not become much louder which is a bit interesting. Another way to explain the sound level difference is, the exhaust rumble increased slightly in a deep throaty way. In my opinion there is not much more a person can ask for in an 3" exhaust (sound wise).

Now here are some pics.

The muffler, stainless steel mirror finish with double wall tips

From the back

How far it sticks out

The resonator

The taper

Notice the flange inner diameter is 3", but inside where the exhaust pipeing is, its inner diameter is like 1mm smaller (who cares)

Hope this helps you guys get a better idea/picture in your minds of the Tanabe exhaust. Feel free to ask questions here.

******************************UPDATE************** *************************************

Inside the straight flow through muffler, it tapers down to ~ 2.75 inches give or take)

I measured it using a piece of cardboard taped on to a long screw driver. I kept trimming the cardboard until it was able to slide in and out of the taper easily.

Here are some pictures of the taper. Notice it is inside the straight flow through muffler.

Further view from outside the exhaust tip.

Closer view from inside the exhaust Tip. The arrow points at the taper end.

Mine I got used off of ebay. Usually they go new for around 550.

I'll try to make one in the next couple days. Only problem is i have a digi cam and that might not show accurately how the exhaust sounds.

But until then here are clips straight from Tanabe's website:

Outside Car - No Load
http://www.tanabe-usa.com/soundclips/evot_out.wmv

Inside Car - No Load
http://www.tanabe-usa.com/soundclips/evot_ins.wmv

Driving Car - Under Load
http://www.tanabe-usa.com/soundclips/evot_ind.wmv

The soundclips dont do the exhaust justice, but as long as you notice that the engine noises from the front can still be heard with the exhaust. Thats to let you know how quiet it is, but off course its louder than stock.

Good write up.
I'm planning on getting this catback soon.
I think it fits JDM bumper without any mods if I'm not mistaken.
