Bad experience at Harman Motive

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience I had with Harman Motive. I think the quality of this shop has gone down since they moved. I used to get all my installations and tuning there and recently got into a bad car accident and they had to of course do extensive repairs. My friend owns the car shop doing the repairs and I was there in the shop helping him repair my car and noticed Harman Motiv had done the worst wiring job for my Defi Guages where they spliced all the wiring instead of bridging the wires in. I was very disappointed that a quality shop could do such horrible job on installing the wires on my car. Tuning wise I have always been happy with Dan but I am very reluctant to get anything done by them unless its just tuning. Has anyone had similar experiences? FYI my friend with an EVO had oil pump installed incorrectly by them too and they also forgot to attach the turbo hose that gets the boost going.

Tel me about it. Also I just fixed my oil pressure pump issue yesterday. After getting my Defi Oil Pump Guage installed by Harman the pressue kept dropping slightly below normal. Asked Dan why does it do that and he said you need a new oil pump. And that it would cost me around $700.00 to fix this problem. I was reluctant because oil pumps dont really go bad. Anyways long story short i took to my friends shop and was told they wired the guages incorrectly and that it was a voltage problem. I thought these guys were pro's but in reality there no better than Midas. But I still think your a decent tuner.

that is ****ing fail.

this is why i would never, despite what 85% of subaru community suggest, take my sti to get tuned at harman. if they can't install a freaking oil pressure gauge they're not tuning my engine.

They are in CA very reputable more in the STI world. I ordered my APS exhaust from them good prices on most stuff. I live in NY so i wouldnt be getting any work done by them but good to know for others. Its so easy to wire those guages in I have OCD about wiring(Im a Mobile Electronics Certified Installer) I soldered and heat shrinked all my connections and loomed all the wires even through the glove box lol.

I just took my car back to Harman to have some stuff checked out. I spoke to Dan personally and he actually commmented about this post I have made and addressed all the issues I had. At the end of the day I can only commend Dan for helping me out on the issues I had. In regards to the wiring issues Dan did say he would be more than happy to look at any issues I had from installation at Harman Motiv. I know Dan was not directly involved in working on my car but the fact he came to personally and addressed all the issues I had made say hey this shop does care. I recommend anyone to Harman Motiv. I guess no shop is perfect but making things right is the most important aspect of customer service and Dan did just that. THANK YOU AGAIN DAN for addressing those issue and helping me out yesterday. You have my utmost support and I wish you well.

I feel ya!

I almost went there for some parts/tuning, a while back, but read one of these threads like this... It seems things like this happen at almost every shop. (that Ive been to) You research, find they have a decent reputation, but when all is said and done, theres always a damn lil issue... it might be a lil issue, but its so damn irritating to have a "professional" make retarded mistakes that you, yourself wouldnt even make... And it usually comes down to Laziness!

Example: I was tuned (first time) $500 and recieved a tune w/ stock boost and timing w/ minor tweaks to the afr... I contacted the shop owner, and he offered to let me have 3 dyno pulls... I ask him, WTF do dyno pulls have to do w/ my POS tune I recieved from your shop? The answer to that was "thats my offer" take it or leave it...

In this field, customer service is the KEY!!! You start getting a bunch of negative reviews, there goes business... Because of this, they (shops owners) feel obligated to make an effort to make you as the customer, happy! After the fact! You have to love the internet! I personally think, if there was no internet, so we can post up our experiences, there would be sooo many people w/ issues, and the shops would care less! Once you leave the shop, its ur prob. type ****.

I know that noone is perfect, but when you pay some1 to do "the job" I would think that every1 expects perfection... W/ that being said, You do have to commend the shops that do take responsibility for their actions, and "FIX" the issue!
