ebay short-shifter review! MUST HAVE!

So a while back, I helped my buddy Chris (s2kracka) install a Fidanza short-shifter on his car.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=341893

I had several reservations about this. First, I thought the throw on the evo was short enough stock (I had a 2G DSM before that, 12" shift length! LOL!), and I was concerned by comments I had heard from others that this mod would make switching between gears (5-3 downshift for example). After driving his car, it was immediately obvious that this was not the case, and that the reduced throw was impressive. I immediately wanted one!

Before ordering a fidanza, someone suggested looking on ebay. Well, I gotta tell ya, the product pictured there was *identical* to what we had just installed. But for $14 ($16 buy-it-now), and $15 shipping, I simply HAD to get one.

From ebay user from-zeroto, I bought this unit:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...227301778&rd=1

Neither the Fidanza nor the ebay unit came with any instructions. After helping s2kracka install his, we had it figured out, and cranked through mine in about 30 minutes flat.

I purchased $23 inparts from mitsu to make this go smoothly:
Mitsu part # MR246296 Retainer+gearshif)
+ MR232147 tiny cups for ball ends (the ones taht come with the kit are questionable!)

All I gotta say is WOW. $31 shipped for the short shifter, $23 in parts from mitsu = $54. This is officially on my 'short list' of mods that should be done to every Evo, right after full exhaust, mbc/gm bcs, intake, tune, front engine mount, and rear sway bar (i.e. basic modded evo).

There's a bunch of ways you can setup this shifter to suit where your hand falls, and the install (once you have done it once ) is easy, mine took about 30 minutes. Throw is reduced by at least an inch in front and an inch in back, full throw front to back is about 3" (SHORT!). I was super worried about the vagueness inbetween gears, but grabbing various gears is very intuitive and very easy.

The kit includes lower shifter bushings to stiffen up the whole shifter assembly. Add in under-hood bushings (on the other end of the shifter cables) and a front motor mount for furious, clean, quick, snick-snick shifting action, especially when coupled with NLTS!

I would not have bought one of these if it was not *identical* to the fidanza SS. Worth every penny.

Out with the old:

Quick cut with the rotozip (sorry, blurry):

In with then new:

If you own an evo, go buy one of these. Right now.

Looks good. I have the Authority shifter and it's great. I didn't have to cut up the base at all though, it works fine.

+1 on a cheap, effective mod!

I should go snap a picture of mine. The knob sits a bit lower than stock, but driving with a 20oz bottle in the cup holder is still no problem.

I don't know if this would work for an evo3. I have a buddy with one though, we could see if any of the stuff lines up....

Here it is all back together, it looks up....stock

There are a few different settings you can put it on, so you can have it placed right where you want it!

looks nice man! Speaking of shifters... does anyone experience a sort of pop feeling in their evo when shifting at higher (6000-7000( rpms when releasing the clutch ? or is that how the Evo is?

You would *really* have to be abusing the shifter for it to break, these things look very very solid, I would have a really hard time seeing one of these break.

I put my car through plenty of abuse, so I'll post here if it ever snaps

Ive seen B&Ms break, but then again he was like 6'4" 240lbs in a 900hp supra driving like he was tryin to break a world record

Its hard to tell, but you said it does sit lower then the stock shifter?

The knob sits a bit lower than stock, but not by a huge amount. I am really happy with the knob placement.
