My great experience at DTMotorsports VA

Ok, so ive been wanting to get my Kelford 272 cams installed for a while now (along with my HKS cam gear, and Gates timing/balance belts) and while i was at it i also needed a retune because i was running extremely rich.

i was originally scheduled to get this all done at Atlantic Motorsports, they were going to charge me out the ***, literally. i have all the parts, and they wanted like $400 in labor to do the belts, and $375 for the cams (cam gear at no charge) and a tune for like $450. i was ok with paying this because who else would do this for me?

but then the other day, while i was doing an O2 housing/manifold install on my friends car, he told me about DTM. so... I got curious, and called DTM, i told them that Atlantic motorsports was scheduled to do the car, and if i took it to them i would save a considerable amount of money. so i did a search on here, and saw reviews from people who had been to their shop, all good things, not one bad review. Im not at liberty to say how much i saved, but lets just say that with the savings, i now have almost enough money to buy the clutch/flywheel i want for next month's upgrades...

last time i had my car tuned, TTP-engineering set the car up on their mustang dyno, and it hit 336 with correction. now, im almost positive that there are differences between TTP's dyno, and DTM's dyno. DTM's definately reads really low, or TTP's reads really high for a mustang dyno. i have installed several upgrades since i was tuned at TTP. after everything i have done to the car since last time, i am reading lower than what i made at TTP. DTM's mustang dyno said that i made right around 320awhp. but i have to tell you, my car is pulling incredibly harder now after DTM tuned the car, and if that wasnt enough, the knock count when TTP tuned the car was at 16. DTM has since fixed this problem.

I am very pleased with thier work, i look forward to purchasing one of thier 35r turbo kits... after i get a better clutch

You found a great shop and great guys. I have had nothing but positive interaction with these folks and have nothing but praise for their work!

As a matter of fact there is no question that if I had to choose between driving up the road to Buschurs or all the way down to DC to see the guys at DTM, I would go to DTM.

It's worth the drive and the time to deal with folks who I respect.

Good choice, DTM is definitely a shop with the experience you can trust. I wouldn't have any second thoughts with leaving my evo in their hands Also nice to know you saved a bunch by switching to DTM

The knock count was at zero.

You added parts to the car that it WAS NOT TUNED FOR.

YOU INDUCED KNOCK ON YOUR OWN CAR FROM MAKING DYNO PULLS WITH PARTS YOU INSTALLED AND WERE NOT TUNED FOR.

Don't play this game. There was no problem to fix, other than the problem YOU induce when you add parts to a car not tuned for YOUR changes.

Not bashing TTP at all, a dyno is just a tool. But all evidence shows that their dyno reads very high in relation to what is thought as the norm for a mustang dyno. Even higher than the norm for a dynojet.

Did you do a baseline dyno pull at DTM before having added those new parts and getting retuned? If not, then how do you know you were knocking on TTP's tune before your mods?
Are you also stating that you lost 16whp from one dyno to the next after having added cams+ other misc. parts to your evo? Yet it pulls "incredibly harder" now....yea, that's a REALLY good job. Yes this means you should post your final numbers.

Don't know the whole story but let's not turn this into another war thread.

Good that your car's worked out.

Even though TTP's dyno reads high unlike BR or DTM mustang dyno, from the reviews that i've seen so far, TTP def. knows how to tune.

Thanks for the kind words Dave. It was a pleasure getting the car running well for you. As I told you the minute we pulled the car in, "the numbers will cause a bit of discomfort for you". I warn every single person who walks in the door. You cannot mistaken the difference before and after. Those cams are pretty badass and made some really impressive numbers. Good luck with the car and hope to see you soon.

TTP, There was not one single time he ever blamed you guys for anything. You did a good job on the car when you had it. He told me two things when he came in. "the car has alot more mods from when it was tuned before and it would make well over 336whp." That is when I told him that he may be heart broken.
Now after installing the cams and getting the vehicle ready on the dyno, I connected the laptop to datalog and see how his STFT are being affected by the cams. As I did so I noticed his octane value was 79.69%. The car was not dyno'ed before the install for two reasons. Number one because it was useless as the vehicle should be retuned for the current mods and then retuned after the cams. Secondly, we were preparing cars for an event this past weekend and had very little time alloted for comparisons. Now take it for what it is but 336 WHP on the mods he came in with seem high for a "mustang dyno". I also told him that normally people would see around 310-315 on here with a similar setup.
Bottom line is the customer is happy and that is all that matters.

Being happy and sharing the experience is one thing. Adding mods, beating on the car untuned and then bringing up a company that tuned the car prior to the mods and selling it as if the car was tuned for added parts is another.

I'm sure we share the same feelings on this subject.
