boom please chime in as you have done this many more times than i have.
kyooch, you must also bleed the clutch because it is a seperate system and air may be trapped,, but the fluid is comming from the brakes mastercylinder,,, so when bleeding the brakes you filll the brakes reservour when bleeding the clutch you must fill the same reservour.

Some people never bleed the clutch though. I personally don't but I take good care whenever I do anything with the fluid to never ever let it run low and purposely introduce air into the system. If you take care to always top it off while your bleeding the brakes or swapping fluid or pads or whatever you should be all good.

if i read your question correctly, the answer would be they could use as much fluid as they think necessary to get all contamination and air out of the system.
i ussually use 2 bottles and that has been enough for the brakes.
- like BluEVOIX said, if they bled both systems than it makes more sence why 4 bottles were used.

18 days on track this year.
I think I bled the brakes twice! The first time is when I switched pads, the other time was when I switched in a very used set of pads to try and squeeze out 1 more weekend and experienced some glazing and brake fade.
Other than that; really ZERO issues and very very low maintenance from AMSOIL DOT4 brake fluid. I'll be running this stuff again next year for sure.

2011 season is coming up....
One of the yearly rituals I do now is to go completely through the brake system. That means not only checking everything, but also flushing in fluid, changing seals and stocking up on pads/fluid for the year.
This weekend - since it was finally above 32 degrees - I went through and checked my stock. I've got 2 sets of seals & dustboots for the front calipers, along with extra AMSoil DOT4 brake fluid so I'm ready to get started with the preventative maintenance. I'll keep everyone posted when I start the wrenching. In the meantime, here's a pic of the seals & dust boots for 1 front caliper:

Nice write up boom! I too will be tearing down the calipers and rebuilding after this weekends NASA event. I will try AMSOIL when I do the overhaul. I too was having to bleed Motul 600 after every event, but I switched to RBF660 last year and it has gotten significantly better. But, it is not as low maintenance as you describe, so AMSOIL it is this season!!

I just helped a few locals with brake flushing/bleeding last weekend. Plan to use two pint bottles to flush just the brakes, and possibly a 3rd pint if you are also doing the clutch if you want to be on the safe side. It's possible to do both with only two pints, but you'd have to be very careful not to bleed more than is needed.
If you're removing the clutch restrictor pill at the same time you will definitely need the 3rd bottle to offset the loss of fluid.

Charging for 4 quarts of gear oil would be expected though.

The pads themselves just have a little over 3 track days on them. Same for the front rotors. All look good to start the season. So, I put the pads back in - greasing just the front for good measure. Pics below. I'll still be doing a full flush and bleed to start the year with fresh AMSOIL DOT4 fluid.

The seals themselves do need replaced from time-to-time. I'm assuming when you overheat your brakes it accelerates that need. Mine have been good the past few years with cooling ducts and better fluid.
