harness bars, not so good!!!
This was brought up in the evoM Motorsports section
- Being a safety issue and knowing that many cars run a harness bar it really needed a thread of its own...
- The harness bar failed during a frontal impact collision on the street (non-track incident)
- Passenger was ejected from the vehicle

Damn! Yeah I was never impressed by the quality of Sparco's harness bars...but with an accident like that I don't really expect any harness bar to hold up well...I really like my ebay harnress bar that has 3 solid pieces, no adjustable ends like the Sparco unit...My ebay bar is a bit heavier then the Sparco unit but that is fine with me...BUT I also wouldn't expect my ebay bar to hold up in an accident like that either...hope the driver and passgener were alright...

I was never a fan of the harness bar...
my thought on it was the fact that a harness is suppose to keep you upright, and cheating the system by using a harness bar will in fact keep you seated upright and in doing so in a roll over accident is not good... let alone in a frontal impact such as this...
as for 4-pt harnesses they suck too... unless its a 4-pt Schroth with ASM...

Im no structural engineer but I never liked those just because those joints look flimsy, imo. I guess I was right. There is no point on the street to upgrade from the oem design. If you want a harness, your gonna need a cage, then your gonna need a helmet. They all work together. Im not a fan of any 4 point belt system, even if the schroth one is proven. I could see the argument if the owner tracks their evo, then the asm unit could be of benefit. but just for the street, just stick with oem. I seen lots of evos with these harness bars and aftermarket harness systems on purely street driven evos. Unfortunately lots of these owners dont understand that alot these harnesses arent safer without the rest of the package. Im not trying to stir up arguments from the harness or schroth asm fans, just my .02.

Not that it makes a difference but here is the harness bar I have...as you can see no "flimsy" joints...

I never looked into getting one b/c of the price, but for 3/4 less I would!
