Due to our current workload we have to look out for our in house customers first. Delivering not only a strong car but one in a reasonable time frame is important. At the current time taking in outside cars simply isn't an option. We have to make sure those customers that are paying for our labor and tuning are taken care of first. Hopefully in the fall or winter this will change but for now we simply cannot bring anymore outside tuning. Please don't take this personally or think we are abandoning anyone, it is merely just a business decision due to lack of resources.

For those in the IL area that need a tune Devin at Boostin is a great option. We have also heard customers that have been happy with Strictly Modified.

Once the schedule starts to free up a bit we will open up the opportunity again. I will keep everyone posted. Thank you for understanding

Eric
I understand taking care of those cars that are in house first, makes sense. But when the parts were ordered a tune was requested and nothing was said about not be able to provide one or not tuning outside cars for now.. And as was already posted if you are that busy why not hire another tuner, get another dyno, charge more money if need be? You are hurting your good reputation unfortunately.

Huge +1.

i was stationed at hood back in 09 Cobb is the big wig down there with a lot of great small shops. If a shop like AMS branched out that way... oh boy.

Its not that easy. Tuners and GOOD tuners more importantly are very hard to come by. Knowing how to work tuning software and having a great grasp of engine theory are two very very different things.

We already have two dyno's and no more room to put a third. I understand this upsets you and we are sure you will not be alone but sadly we just don't have any other options at this time. The best thing we can do right now is tell people up front that we cannot take them in rather then say we can and pile up cars to upset all of our customers. My sincerest apologies on the recent chain of events. I hope you can get your car taken care of very quickly and we really appreciate your support up to this point. Sadly we are at a time in our company history where we just cant make everyone happy.

Me personally, with the the cars that Ams is doing now, Mercedes, tt r8's, gtr's, maclaren's, they have a high rep to maintain. So I understand where they are coming from. The same thing with high exotic tuners like ugr, if you buy a used kit off of someone they won't give you any help because they are not doing the work. Liability! When your dealing with cars that cost 100k plus you cannot afford any mistakes and can't take unnecassry risks. Image is everything that high end customers look at. For them to be still in the Evo game makes me know they still have love for all Evo owners. Cause damn skippy they aren't making no where near the money doing evo's as they are doing the exotics.

They are inbetween a rock and a hard palce. They should not comprimise on their expected level of tunning to meet customer demand. When a good tuner leaves they have to find a replacement that is equally as good or better to maintain expected results that AMS has continuously yielded. It sucks I know that they are overbooked and most of us evo owners are on the waiting list (Backburner) but if I was shuving out the $$$$ for their parts, Labor$$ and Tunning$$$$$ I would like to think that I would be a priority, especially that AMS is known for not being cheap. Theres planty of other places in the chicagoland area that focus on evos/dsm/sti that are more than willing to work on your car. Even Eric recomended Devin at Boostin Perfomance, Strictly Modified. theres also Boomba Racing, APM, ect that are all within 20 miles from eachother. So if you need AMS youre gonna have to wait, if not find someone else.

If you owned a shop and started being responsible for 1/4mil dollar cars and100k plus builds, would you risk your rep on hoping that the engine was clearanced and put together correctly and then take the risk of tuning it when you have no idea what all was done to the car or how it was broken in, oil used. So many variables. Who would be first to get blamed if something happened during tuning? See my point?

AMS brings up a good point. Finding a very qualified tuner is not that easy. I am fortunate to have several extremely good tuners where I live here in Minnesota. Given that they only have two dynos and a boatload of customers, the backlog on tuning must be crazy. If anyone has seen videos of those Alpha 12 GT-R's, it is very apparent that AMS knows their stuff. I also think it is cool that Eric from AMS had good things to say about Devin from Boostin as well Strictly modified. Too bad the OP does not live closer to Minneapolis because we have a couple of ace tuners here who would certainly take care of his car.

We're a little spoiled down here in Texas, there are some GREAT shops and tuners, Evolution Dynamics, COBB, SSP TX, etc. (sorry if I forgot anyone).

Of course there is always room for more, Texas is a big state...hint hint.

Yup,
It's easy to say from the outside looking in that they still get paid and you sign wavers etc etc... from the inside looking at the situation (no i don't work for ams but i have worked for another shop) you would be amazed at the crap that comes in the door to be tuned that was supposedly built by a professional shop. I can't count how many hours of my time i gave away trying to help people who had been shafted by other shops.
