HKS Turbo Warranty Caution

HKS Turbo Warranty Caution
I just wanted to make a cautionary note here:
I have been confirmed that HKS will no longer honor the warranties on their turbos - no matter where and when you have bought it from, etc. If the turbo lets go, that's it.
That was the case for my HKS 7460R. On a normal, but very cold January morning start up, oil smoke suddenly started billowing out of my exhaust, and the oil completely filled up my LICP. The day before that was a normal 150 mile drive on the highway, where I didn't even hit boost. The car had bolt ons and the turbo was at 25psi, nothing crazy, and had been tuned but no autocross or track events.
We were prepared to ship the turbo back to HKS Japan when we were notified that they would not be honoring their warranty on this turbo, nor any other for that matter.
Thanks

Wow, what a lame thing for such a very big company to do. Did they give any specific reason why? If you don't stand behind your products, when why should we pay the premium to have them? I don't plan on putting anything HKS makes on my evo, but they still sound kinda shady to be doing this.

I am Eric Urness and I approve this message. I will no longer support HKS in any way shape or form, since they will not support their product.
They won't even rebuild/repair the turbocharger.

not exactly sure, but I think a statistically significant number. There was a midrelease refresh ("kai") that I believe may have quietly addressed some of the issue (this is all speculation) that the earlier release had, but not sure.
Either way, neither will be honored their warranty. I want to reiterate that this isn't a voided warranty - it's flat out not honoring it, they won't even take it to look at.

^ good point. there was a ton of back and forthing and responsibilities being handed from place to place, and then when things were finally in the right hands 7-8 months later, ready to send back to hks, hks put a stop to that one.

yes, they were very helpful, and they were the point through which the hks was to be shipped back to japan for warranty work - when all of a sudden hks began refusing to honor the warranties.

Turbo was bought through Driveline Motoring (which changed ownership after the turbo was sold) Driveline got it through the help of Sean Ivey (because they sold a turbo they didn't have and needed Sean to help them out of a jam) and the turbo was supplied through Motovicity Distribution.
I know Sean and the people at Moto... we tried. Filled out HKS's forms and jumped through all the hoops.

I've been following the HKS warranty issues as of late, I don't see how they expect to sell ANY turbos in the USA with that kind of policy. I have to say, their future looks somewhat grim if they treat all their customers that way.
