ETS "3.5 fmic fitment issue

I love the intercooler just had fitment issues. I trimmed the areas as directed. Still had a few problems. I searched and saw a few other people had issues. So I thought this review might help.

1. I had a problem with the middle tabs on the crash beam. So I just cut them completely off. No matter how far I trimmed they rubbed. They don't matter too much.

2. The second issue was the screen rubbing after trimming. So I just bent it up after trimming. No biggie

3. Then the crash beam was rubbing my end tanks. So I welded a "1/4 spacer over the bolt holes. Its the 4 main bolts that connect the crash beam to the frame.
I just got a metal plate. Marked the bolt holes and drilled them. Then I tacked it onto the crash beam. The bumper was a little tighter after the spacers, but still fit good and stopped the rubbing.

I had no problem installing my ETS 4 Inch intercooler on my 03 Evo 8. Few trimming here and there but nothing to serious. But i did have hard time putting the bumper back on because the intercooler being to big for the bumper, but after some yelling and kicking the bumper, it fit in lol

I just wanted to help the few that do have issues. I know I searched and there was nothing. My car is an 03 evo 8 so that might be a reason idk. It's never been in a crash and only has 60k miles.

The main thing was the spacers on the crash beam and just cutting the tabs off completely.

It's interesting. I've never had anyone complain about fitment on the 3.5" unit. The only deal we had in the past was from that tab. Almost makes me think they sent a 4.0" unit instead of a 3.5" unit.

When I installed my 3.5" i just took my crash beam off just to get it out of the way, easy install. then put the beam back on with no issues.

I would assume just remove the crash beam when installing an aftermarket intercooler. Weight reduction!

the only time I've had any issues with any FMIC's....were with front end damages, which sounds kinda like what your working with.

Terrible advice for a street car. Not only is it illegal and dangerous to occupants, but the car will sustain much more damage in a minor accident and your insurance adjuster will when you make a claim.

Wait so all the EVOs in JDM, EDM and AUDM markets are dangerous, since they DONT have the crash beam??

The crash beam is a USDM only item because of our insurance companies. Yes, if the insurance company sees you have no crash bar, it "may" affect your claim (but not always.)

Disclaimer: Boosted Tuning does NOT support removing your crash beams.
