yea dont get the Iw01-24 its a purely racing plug. The gap is like .20 (not .24 like advertised) and you will get misfires under partial throttle (trust me I've tried them.) High RPM action feels very smooth though...

I've tried all kinds of plugs and different gaps and found the HKS S40G works best for my setup. The gap I set them to is .026. I've also tried copper ranging from .24 on up to .28 and it just doesnt feel the same as an Iridium plug. Part or full throttle suffers a little no matter how I gap them.

They shouldnt be fouling either, sounds like you have fueling issues. I've gone through more than a few sets now with no issues at all. I could have left them in longer, but hey it's fun to change them ever 10 thousand or so.

I've heard the car is designed to only use the recommended Iridium plugs.

Actually there are a many vehicle specific plugs and many are not universal. There are maybe a handful that are cross references. And that is a fact. I just find it amusing as well that an Evo is running MX plugs that my YFZ 450 and the likes is using as well as my go-karts. If they work, they work.

Plugs are universal as long as the thread, heat range, reach, and gap spec are the same.

I ran a set of these (don't ask how) and the stock plugs are better for my street use. The claim is that they will not foul given their design, but they are too cold for my stop and go driving and the anti-foul design wasn't good enough.

My take is that these should be reserved for a track day.

What gap, then?

I got the BR8ES and gapped them to .28 per the how-to here on evom. Seems like folks lean towards .26 or other.

Should I gap them closer to .26?

What would the symptoms be of having too wide a gap?

FWIW, the car had a certain idle roughness that was significantly improved with the new plugs.

thanks

Use BR8ES plugs gapped at about 0.027. They're cheap and they work well. Change them every oil change. They're also recommended by Vishnu.

I've been running these plugs since last October when I was last tuned. I've never had any problems with them. The car runs smooth and has never skipped a beat. I've pulled them several times, and they have the tannish-white color of a normal plug. They have never been black from running too cold or fouling out. I think these plugs will last a long time too. When you have these plugs it is probably best to be tuned for them.

Heh, oh yeah I am a dummy. There would indeed be quite a difference between .28 and .027!

Thanks
