I work with the graduate students so I don't have any involvement with the FSAE (which is undergraduate). I may help them next year depending on other projects...

Evo Ohlins

Spring selection would depend on intended use, driver skill and tire size. I am using 450/550 springs (track tires/wheels 275x40 17 Hoosiers on 9" CE28s) but for street use only, a weaker spring could be used. Or for autocross and/or giant slicks a stiffer spring would be needed. The revalving on the Ohlins makes them good for autocross springs up into the 800/900 range.

I tried Chronohunters suggestion and backed off a few clicks on the damping and did notice a real improvement in ride. These are so much more supple than stock - once you've tried them you hate the stock ride.

The cost wont be avalible until after the holdays, since all of our distributors are out.

That wouldn't take much...I've been on hobby horses with more control than the stock suspension. A road with any undulation and the stocke suspension will leave you wanting.

So my question is, what would be considered the optimal for a primarily daily driver that sees the track 1, 2, maybe 3 at the most/year track days? Sway bars and softer springs? I am also looking at going with 18x8.5 or 9 with maybe a 255 series tire, too, in the future...I should probably try to figure that in to the equation, or adjust spring rate later, or is there enough adjustment in the damper to compensate?

As you can see I MAYBE know enough to get in trouble...I do know that the stock suspension leaves MUCH to be desired.

Can I assume that the cost will be for a total kit (read: I won't have to source my own upper top hat, camber plates, etc.)?

We will figure it into the equation and you are right, you sound like a candidate for a softer spring and stiffening the bars. When you are getting ready to order you can PM me to give me all the details of how and where you drive and your expectations

Ohlins

The Ohlins do not come with top hats for the rear but the stock ones work fine IMO unless you are heavy duty into running on the track.

Ohlins spring rates

Its interesting that for canyon running/driving on windy backroads, etc. that even with no engine mods or exhaust mods you can have a real blast with this suspension. You can drive at say ~65-70% without using a lot of throttle and without real heavy braking and the way the car holds the road is just amazing.

I used to think that driving a car set up for the track was not that fun on the street because you were never really able to push it even close to its limits without going so fast that you were taking too many risks.

But with this setup, even when driving at these lower levels it is just a blast because the steering precision and road holding levels are so high.
