Stage 1++ and CA smog inspection

May already have been posted, but...my 03 with TBE, HFC, 10.5 hotside,Xede,HKS 272/264 cams and cam gears passed smog today by a long shot. Car was running on race map with 100oct fuel. I'm sure it would have passed on 91 oct, but since adding the HFC, the boost response and power is really a bummer. So, I've found myself running on race map to make up for the loss in power.

Anyway, very pleased to have a "legal" car that hauls ***.

Now its off to the state referee to pass the DB test. I'm sure it will pass.

Now, I would like a turbo upgrade that would pass visual inspection and give me at least 400 whp on DD. Stage 2????

Any stage 2's like to give opinions? Love to hear them.

That's great to hear. I had a feeling that a Stage 1+ would pass smog hear in California.

Great news. Can you clarify which cams are which i.e, 272 exhaust or intake? Which HFC do you have?

I have the HKS 272in/264ex and a RRE "magnaflow" HFC. Exhaust is 3" DC sports TB.

Honestly, my numbers were soooo far from the limit, I couldn't see any HKS cam not passing smog. That's my opinion and definitely not a claim.

Numbers looked like this:

Limit = 100
mine = 26
avg. = 7

= lot's of room to spare.

That gives me some hope. Mine will be later this year. I've got 264I/272E and will have the stock converter on for the test. You have SMART? If so, you just disconnected the Creader upon the test?

I think you should go for those Gerrard-Spec Ohlins before the Stage 2

I DO have SMART and I did disconnect the Creader. I seriously wouldn't sweat passing the test. The tester said "car was great." "No problem passing"

Good luck! but, you won't need it.

Well, I won't claim to know the answer, but like I said, the 272/264 combo was FAR from NOT passing. How much different could the 272/272 combo be? I just can't see the 272 exhaust cam making the car produce 3 times the pollutants.

That is a killer suspension setup to say the least. I just don't ever go to the track and I think I would NOT get the value on the street.

The stage 2 has value for me when I get on the freeway coming home from a 14 hour work day. Going 0-60 in 3 seconds is really the only fun I get to have.

My heart bleeds for you.

I guess working outdoors by the beach chasing desperate housewifes all day isn't any fun.

Sounds very encouraging !

But ...

Why did you have to take a SMOG test on a three year old car ?
