Aquamist HFS-1 alky kit install
This kit is going to take a few days to install, so I'll document it as I go along.
A few months back I decided to ditch my SMC alky kit and upgrade to an Aquamist. There were a number of different reasons behind this, but ultimately the Aquamist is the best kit/combo available right now. It all boils down to two things: instant on/off spraying, and actual support for a real life failsafe.
The Aquamist has a HUGE pump that is always on. The top 1/4 of it is a bolt-on manifold that they designed so it can supply a constant 125psi to the fluid line, no matter how much flow there is. Full flow or zero flow. This kit has a valve that is placed in the line just before the injection point that instantly supplies perfect flow or zero flow to the engine.
The other thing I plan to do with this new setup is pretty amazing, and really clutch for this whole project. ECU hacks are being developed for the evo 8 ecu that will allow different fuel/timing/boost maps based on a voltage input to a free ecu pin. I've worked with Aquamist UK to figure out a good way to use this Aquamist kit to do this. The DDS Flow monitoring gauge for this kit has an on/off switch, so I'll be able to switch between fully tuned straight pump gas map@24psi to a fully tuned alky map@28psi with literally the push of a button. Also if anything ever goes wrong with the alky kit, I will revert to my pump gas map so all will be safe.
There's lots more to go on and on about with this kit, but I'll just jump into it. This kit is really comprehensive. A picture is worth a thousand words (and parts!) For reference, the pump is about the size of one of those big 24oz silver bullet beer cans:
This kit is kinda DIY in that you have to assemble *everything* yourself, you have to source your own alky tank, and any installation accessories you have to get yourself. I got some nice techflex to wrap up the tubing and wiring as it runs here and there through the car.
Here's the mount I made out of 1.5" x .125" aluminum from Menards. This holds the tank and pump:
Mounted up in the trunk, wiring semi-run:
Ran the fuel line/wiring loom behind the seat supports, so they wouldn't get smashed by people bouncing on the rear seats:
Trunk lining/carpet back in place. Glad I went with the 4 quart tank, it fits perfect!
DDS gauge temporarily mounted on my steering clumn:
That's all for day two, I probably have about 4 hours into this kit install as of now. Lots of time sitting and fiddling with all of the little pieces
Also, just wanna thank Modern Automotive Performance, I'm psyched a local shop can hook us up with the best alky kit on the market!

Looking forward to the finished write up as I'm going with this kit as well. I was also wanting to do two tunes (pump and Meth), so if I understand correctly your basically working out a way to switch maps on the fly by press a switch or button with the factory ECU correct? Also does the tank come with the kit or do you buy it separately?

tripper, tank sold separately usually, search this forum for more info on that. The switch that will switch between pump and pump/alky maps will just be the on/off switch for the DDS, on the gauge itself.

Nice, very very nice that the EVO people can do this.

well cross your fingers that it all works as planned! If tephra can hook me up with the code for the 05 (there's space issues I guess) and I can find the time to finish this install (going out of town for a few days) we should have some results in the next week or so. Once I have both maps fully tuned, I will try doing a run on the dyno with alky enabled then turn off the DDS half-way through and see if it works properly

I do not have doubts about things, I love the Aquamist stuff and have had another kit from another kit maker (= total and absolute crap in comparison). What I really like is that the EVO people can have the W/A tied into the factory ECM..........that drives me nuts since as an SRT-4 owner I needed to move to an EMS to do this.
