SKILMATIC, I have a question for you about detailing since you seem like you know your stuff. I'm extremely **** about my car, and I take good care of it, but no matter what I do, I cannot get rid of the swirls (previous owner). The paint feels great, and looks great in the shade, but when it is in direct light, or under a flourecent light it still has little tiny scratches all over. I had the car detailed when I bought it, by a guy in Newport that maintains a collection of Ferraris (F40, F50, F60, 250 GTO etc.), but it still isn't right. Do you think my problem can be fixed by having someone buff it with a more agressive buffing compund, or should I just live with it. Also, if I did find someone who could make it perfect, is there a way to seal the car afterwards so that it won't get the fine scratches again? The weak *** paint on my car drives my absolutley crazy. Thanks.

DSEVO, I am glad you are EXTREMELY **** because I am tired of seeing dirty evos. I am assuming your car is red from the avatar? If so mitsubishis red paint for some reason is kinda shabby. However, the swirl marks depending how deep wont be an issue for me. Now you wont be able to remove all of them but most of them you will.

The only thing I can tell you is to bring the car to me sometime during the weekend. I dont trust many auto detailers as they arent even certified. Most of them just hook a trailer up to their truck and call themselves professional auto detialers which is not true at all. I myself worked and was trained by a certified car care specialist.

IF YOU YOURSELF WANT TO GIVE IT A SHOT HERE IS WHAT I WOULD DO.

First there is always the wash/rinse step this must be done with a microfiber sponge. First you want to obviously spray the car down. I usually do this with a pressure sprayer but in your case you just have a hoze. After that then you wash it. And again alot of ametures do this and I just cringe! DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT wipe half the car down with your sponge that hasnt been dipped in the bucket each time you do one stroke; always just do one stroke then dip your sponge in and get a clean refreshed layer of soap on the sponge for the next stroke-never swirl your sponge when washing your car this is how 90% of all the swirl marks are created. Then after the wash is done you need to rinse the car off then claybar itIwhile its still wet). After this then rinse again then dry off with either microfibers or I use whats called the jelly blade. The after the dry off portion is done then you use whats called a paint cleaner, then next would be the polish step then next the wax then the sealant. All of this can be meguairs products except for the sealant. After this is completed your car will barely hae any swirl marks.

Remember swirl marks are just fine scratches of the clear coat. So keeping that clear coat layered and sealed is gold.

If you have any questions just letme know.

^ What do you charge? Thanks for the reply. I don't have the ***** to hit my car with a high speed buffer, I'll leave that to the pros.

LOL! You mean this? It part of what I do for a living, break things down line by line task by task, bit by bit. I need to really quit do that though. I actually don't realize that I'm doing it.

However, as you just said, I have also myself had this same discussion with numerous people who swear by the product much of them are just like you who are old schoolers who dont know any better because you've been using the stuff ever since it prolly came out. And its hard for people like me who are young to even get into your heads because.... well I am young and what the hell do I know right? You have been driving and cleaning a car before I was even thought of yet. You like most the others are set in your ways. Which I am not saying its a bad thing, but its just reality.

Nope! It's all about experience and I did mention that I was also using Meguiars NXT interior detailing spray. It has nothing to do about "old vs young" it has more to do with the experiences that I've had using the product. Look, it goes like this for example, lets say I buy Chevys because they run for a 150,000 miles and the only thing that I spend money on is gas and oil. Lets say you and everyone you know buy one and the car turns out to be a POS. To you and those others who've bought one "it is a POS" based on your experience, however to me based on my experience it is the most wonderful car made. So, the bottom line for me is the performance of the product based on performance over time. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, but it's just reality. AFAS me being an "OLD SCHOOLER" well I'm retiring 01/02/2007, so there. I really didn't want to go there. HA,

Now it may have worked for you but in what way has it worked? Like I said the results of this product arent to my satisfaction, but are to many others who use it. I guess in this case its all personal perspective really.

It worked as advertised, whatever I used it on was still like new, except for the normal wear and tear that things get. but no fading, cracking or peeling at all, at least in my experience. By trade I work in engineering on things that fly, so I don't tend to be hard and fast on anything. I can't afford to, if I did... safe to say that you can't do that where I work.

I will just leave you with this. How do you know the product your using really works until you see the results of other products? Until then you are under assumptions.
Good try, however all my comments are based on "my experience" actually there is no need to see the other products per say, because I didnot say that they didnot work. They may and probably do work and based on your expertise as a detailer they work very well. However that was not my assertation, my assertation was that Armorall worked for me, and it did and does. I am not adverse to trying out new products, I have a rack full of Mothers, Turtle, Eagle, Meguairs, 3M et al products, and I did mention that I was also using the Meguiars NXT Interior detail spray. I guess we just disagree on this one, and if that's the only thing that we ever disagree on then that's alright with me.

Well if you want to help me and learn a thing or 2 then I would only charge you 80 to do everything I just mentioned. But if I do it myself thats a 200 dollar gig. But since you are a fellow evo owner just 150 is cool. I could prolly do it for you on sunday cause I am going to formula d on sat. If not then next weekend is cool

No good try to you for trying to use the quote button haha. However, since you and I are both engineers. I was actually heading towards the aeronautical field or astrophysics field, but I received a great offer from solar turbines in the chemical field. So now I work as a chemical engineer there. My uncle however, is the head mechanical engineer for lockheed martin he heads up a program called CCTT(close combat tactical trainer) which incorporates tank, humvee, and other like simulators.

Where do you work if I may ask? Aeronautics and physics at that has always interested me. Do you work in the design field?

Skilmatic, I'll need a buff and detail the first week in November. Would be willing to learn a thing or two and purchase a buffer down the road. Also, if you know anyone that wants a brand new set of S-Techs, with papers. I've decided to go with Coilover and never installed the Teins. Let me know, I just don't want to deal with shipping and this way the purchaser can see them before handing over cash.

Ok no problem just make sure you remind me. Also I myself have coil overs. However, I too have a set of brand new s-tech springs that need to get rid of. Also are you going to the meet on friday?

I'll try to make it, but I'm going to Hollywood Saturday morning, so I can't say for sure. I want to go and meet some of you guys, so I'll try.

Tien, I'll sell them for $100 obo. There brand new and you'll be able to see for yourself. If you want them, I'll show up for sure on Friday meet.
