Navigational Rally
I decided that instead of just having a regular canyon cruising meet, that I'd host an unofficial, just-for-fun navigational rally. It will run along the Malibu Hills near Malibu, Agoura, Calabasas, and Westlake. Consider it a tour of my favorite practice canyons 
I will be hosting this event on SATURDAY, MAY 31st, meeting at 11:30am at Malibu Creek State Park (meet at the first parking lot inside the park). It is unofficial, mileage will be measured by MY LANCER and time will be kept with stopwatches. There may be a park entrance fee, but my past experiences are to be waved through (I'll update when I visit the park). Here's the schedule for the day:
11:30, arrive (feel free to come early and picnic/hike around)
11:50, driver's meeting, rules and questions
12:00, synchronize watches, continue driver's meeting
12:50, scorers leave for their checkpoints
1:01, first car departs
3:31, first car finishes
I am asking a donation of $4 per each team to help offset my costs for supplies (stopwatches, clipboards, maps, etc.). Please PM or email me (urbanknight2@juno.com) if you plan on participating, so I have an idea of how many maps and directions to copy. I also could use 2 or more volunteer workers to keep time at some of the checkpoints. If we have enough entries, I will use the some of the money to buy them lunch or something.

Objective: This is a test of map and direction reading skills (although I believe much simpler than the SCCA and Monty Carlo style rallies). The goal is to get to each checkpoint at EXACTLY a given time. The times given are calculated so that the competitors do not need to exceed the speed limits. Score will be determined by how many seconds off the car is upon reaching the checkpoint. There is a maximum score for each leg of 300 (5 minutes). Total score is the total of points for each leg of the event (regardless of whether they were early or late). Of course, the lowest score wins.
What to bring: I will provide you with a rough map, directions, and a car number. You should bring:street legal vehicle (duh), another person (each team should have a driver and a navigator), clipboard, pens/pencils/hiliters, calculator, stopwatch or a watch that can set seconds. You can also bring: maps (but please no gps), flashlight (in the case that we have a night event), or any other traditional rally equipment.
I am still typing up the basic rules, and will explain them at the event, but if you want them early, email me and I'll send it as a word file as soon as I get it done.

Keep in mind that although this list helps, I'd like an email or a PM with the following: Driver, Navigator, vehicle (optional). This way, I can be more prepared to make an official list.

ok, is anyone still in? I haven't heard any responses in 2 weeks. If you guys are really gonna do this please EMAIL me asap with:
1. driver name
2. codriver name
3. vehicle (optional)
but I would really appreciate knowing if anyone is actually planning on doing this before I continue preparing for nothing.
And I still need 2-4 people to help out with timing.

This thing is still on, and I have an ITN rally competitor helping me to set up course and keep time. So far, I only have the following people on the list. If you would like to come, please PM or email me so I know how many maps to make. Just tell me your name, codriver's name, and vehicle.
