i got a fix it ticket for my hks ti exhaust a little while ago and the cop told me to take it to the chp and get it signed off with a silencer. i got the silencer and i called the chp and they are saying that if its anything louder than stock then they wont sign it off. is this true or is there a way around this? i thought that it just had to meet a certain decible level?

I believe that 95 dbA is the legal limit in California. I just read the CHP bulletin regarding modified exhaust. The bad news is that it is totally subjective. It is up to the individual officer to decide whether an exhaust is too loud.

Screw them just take your car to a police station or to any police officer in uniform. Have him check your car and sign it off. Heck I had a fix up ticket for the tanabe exhaust on my crx. Took it to my local police station. They did not even go outside to inspect my car. They signed the ticket and off I went. I guess eatting donuts and drinking coffee was more important

It's beyond me why anyone would voluntarily live in California. That state has the worst natural disasters, worst civil disturbances, worst gang problems, and the list goes on and on.
