Fix-it ticket for exhaust

Hey guys... so my g/f was driving my X around the other day, and a cop pulls her over on the freeway. She had both my front windows down (tinted) and was going 65.

Cops pull her over and wrote her a ticket (yellow colored) reason stating "modified exhaust" I currently run a cat-back and a test pipe

it also stated that i had tinted windows, but when the cop pulled her over she had both windows down.. did the cop have the right to ask her to put the window up?

Anyways what are my options... If i put the stock exhaust back on.. do i have to leave my test pipe on before i go to the CHP? also im already assuming i have to take my tint of too?

Do i have any other options? I really dont want to remove and add my exhaust again.

Thanks guys... sorry if this question has been asked before.. i really couldnt find an aswer for me.

******EDIT*************

please read the most recent post! 7/8/09: we got the ticket now we are confused on what to do?

Do not leave your test pipe on. If you do then you will not have a catalytic converter which is a $1000 dollar fine. Make sure you have catalytic converter on before you get it inspected. Good luck.

I say leave everything on and bribe them with a $100 in $1 bills. They'll hook you up.

He can ask anything he wants, if she complies, well....

Is tint illegal in CA?!?! As in, you can't have ANY tint? Or are you just running darker tint than allowed by law? I mean it seems kind of, I don't know...insane....that tint would be illegal in a warm climate like California!

so basically i have to put both catalytic and stock exhaust back on?

what about the mid-pipe? should i leave the AMS one or replace that one too?

but then i guess if i replace the cat then i would have to take off the mid-pipe... lame...

To avoid problems just throw it back to smog passing spec. Even then, depending on the ticket written, they can still give you trouble. The exhaust code officers will usually write you up for is for having an "offensive" exhaust tone which, as stated, can differ from person to person.

Moral of the story?

Put it back to stock, have it checked off, return to modified state

You don't have to put anything back on...if you didn't get a ref sticker, you can just pay the fine and the case will be closed.....

Usually they put a sticker on top of the paper ticket you received but I have heard sometimes they mail you the ref ticket...

I have gotten tickets for exhaust once with ref ticket and once without....The ref one is obviously mandatory that you get it checked off and the other one you just pay the fine and you're good to go....

If it's a fix-it ticket, then you have to fix whatever was illegal and pay the fine.

we got the ticket now we are confused?

bump!

hey guys.. so i checked the mail today and my g/f's ticket came in the mail for my exhaust and tint on my X.

on the bottom it says Bail forfeiture 337.00 or with correction 199.00.

heres my question. On the ticket i got the 27171 a violation (CORRECTABLE) and i got the 26708 violation (CORRECTABLE) exhaust and tint respectively.

so what does this mean? I dont want to pay either 337 or 199... i have read some thread where they paid on 10 dollars by fighting it or whatever. I plan on reverting the exhaust back to stock and i am going to be putting legal tint in my front windows.

So do i just go to a chp office, have them look at the car check off the ticket... then what? This is where i get lost.

Any help is great, and thanks to everybody thats reading this!

Is there a number to call on the ticket? If so, I'd deal directly with the source. This way nothing is left interpreted.
