Does anybody know what the process is for sending your turbo to FP to have it upgraded? Do you send it to them with money for the upgrade or pay for it once they send it back?
Not sure if I'm going to to be able to make it for the cruise. My car might be down for a bit.

As for the cruise, I'm down. I'm a little nervous, as Brian was telling me the motor seemed more "loose" and that he wouldn't recommend driving too far on the motor and it's more of a short distance motor. I don't know how to feel about it. =\

Ugh.. I had a real bad experience with FP. I was trying to upgrade my 35r to a 3586 turbo they had and waited 4 months with no communication about what was going on. Just that "I wasn't the only one waiting" and to keep waiting. I eventually ordered a different turbo all together, as I was STILL waiting after 4 months and gave up on that route.

what do you mean by short distance motor? as its not going to last and it might fail? this would be epic fail as your car has been down FOREVER!

Jim-
Did you go with a vendor for sending your turbo to FP or did you contact them directly?
Maybe your motor is short distance because it will guzzle gas?

If it’s a little loose then you should have new bearings installed and reringed. Didn't that motor make 800hp? Every built motor will burn oil and the looser the motor the more it uses oil, so make sure you keep a close eye on your oil level. Without taking the motor apart and checking the clearance’s it’s really hard to tell the condition of the motor. Jim I'd just put some miles on it and then do a leak down test. That will tell you the condition of the rings. If you don't have a oil pressure gauge you should get one. If it spins a bearing you'll know and can shut off the motor in time to save it.
"Bearing clearances, they aren't tight. Which allows the bottom end to spin more freely and make power easier, but the downside is long durations of operation can cause a spun bearing or oil coking. Same goes for the rings and their ability to seal."
Thoughts?

@ jim- so that motor you bought sounds like an all out race engine. intended for 1/4 mile passes off the trailer and not DD. so if your engine builder says its okay I would suggest something like what Terrible was saying. have him tear it down, measure for new bearings, and new rings. done deal. but of course more money out of pocket and down time. At this rate your car will be ready for the january cruise in 2013. lol
