Lol you guys over-react too easy. Here's the breakdown on jims motor. It has loose clearances. Period, its not worn or beat on, just built loose. A compression or leakdown will mainly show abuse and wear. The leakdown might be a bit high, but still within spec for sure, as everything seals nicely. It was built to make power, not last 50k miles. Can he drive it around town with trips of 50 miles at a time ? Sure. Can he drive it everyday and expect it to last 25k mileage ? Not so much. Basically its a streetable strip motor. He can drive it on the street like to work, meets, or the green door, but I would expect there to be excessive ring wear and bearing wear in a couple years.
As for oil he's running 10w40 Brad Penn now during the cold climate, 20w50 once it warms up.

underated, which holset do you have and how do you like it?
