not a good idea....the local powdercoated valve covers ive seen had leftover residue, which in turn, gets into your oil.

they media/sand blasting done to strip the VC leaves residue behind the baffles.'' Hello Spun bearings''

You can remove the baffles and clean it. Drill and tap with super small bolts to put it back together if you like but there is no way I'd do that. I'd trust JB weld first. Honestly, I'd throw it in the garbage and buy a new one if it was for my engine.

Pcp (powder coating plus) did my valve cover on my old car. I had it on my car for over a year as a daily and no issues.

At o'riely auto parts you can buy spray cans of aircraft paint stripper and it'll get all the paint off (probably in 1 can) without having to worry about particles. Maybe a good roughing up with some fine grit sand paper and you could have it powder coated also.

You don't need to strip the old paint off, just do some wet sanding with some 400 grit , prime and paint maybe a clear coat if you like .

The baffles need to be removed completely to remove all media

correct, the few that I've seen done locally had not had this done....and flakes+media were noticeably peeling off . I had pictures but i deleted them

To the people that say they ''Haven't had a problem'', do a quick check under your valve covers. They might need an extra cleaning

just because you feel ok doesn't mean you don't have AIDS eating your insides. Oil contamination wont blow your motor up instantly, but over time it can lead to things like a spun bearing. I'm not talking ****, just trying to inform you guys because I've personally seen it a few times.

like I said, check under your valve cover...if you even know how to take it off

Wouldn't be the first time sir. Just because I can afford to have people do the dirty work for me, doesn't mean I couldn't do it myself. I just got it like that. Then again, not everyone that works on your car, knows what theyre doing. Excuse me while I go start my car, first time, every time. : )

Good day to you sir.

Good info ^ ^ i had to recheck my valvecover after this guy mentioned it. Just like he said. those little bits of media get everewhere very easily. had to drill out my baffles to clean it out from a job that was done " correctly" . this can be somewhat avoided if the proper preventative steps are taken. good luck to you guy looking to do this mod in the future
