04/10/2010 - Annual AZAWD NASA @ FIR (Main) Meet
Hey guys, to those who aren't on Azawd, here is the info on the annual Azawd meet/Nasa event at Firebird main

NASA Night Event @ FIR April 10th
When: Saturday, April 10th, 2010 (Events all day, 3pm to 1AM, most of us arriving around noon)
Where: Firebird International Raceway (FIR), 20000 S. Maricopa Road - Gila River Reservation, AZ 85226
What: Spectating, HPDE, Hyperdrive, HPDE, drifting etc.
Information:
Gate fee for ALL spectators: $10 for everyone. There will be some $5 off fliers floating around. Also, entry is $5 with a canned food donation! So, if you don't get a $5 off discount flier, bring some canned food and you get the same discount. They cannot be used together for free entry! [CONFIRMED]
Dedicated AZAWD parking: Keep your car safe, park together, and pose for an awesome photo-op! See the map below for where our designated parking is located. This is the same as last year. The drift paddock will be along the entrance way this year. Look for the AZAWD.ORG banner. [CONFIRMED]
HPDE: The backbone of NASA – the High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) program gives the everyday banker, grocery store manager, salesman or housewife the opportunity to drive their cars on a real race track with detailed instruction and training from certified professional instructors. There are no AZAWD discounts this year, sorry guys. [CONFIRMED]
Club Racing: Three times throughout the night, the NASA club racing race cars will take the green flag and race wheel to wheel around Firebird Raceway, using rules similar to that of NASCAR, while using street based cars that have been upgraded for more speed and more safety. [CONFIRMED]
Drifting: The Trial By Fire Drift program is back and will be holding drifting practice and competition sessions on the Firebird Raceway skid pad, just adjacent to the race track. With Hollywood movies such as Fast and Furious, Tokyo Drift modeling themselves after drifting, this style of driving continues to grow in popularity. Drivers will get the opportunity to slide cars around between a coned course, without having to worry about getting hassled by "the man". [CONFIRMED]
Modified Tuner Shootout: Modified Magazine, one of the largest circulating import car oriented magazine, will be holding its 4th annual Tuner Shootout event, right here in Arizona! Up to fifteen of the best vehicle builders, shops and cars from around the nation will arrive at Firebird Raceway to go heads up in battles on the autocross, drag strip, road course and engine dyno testing machine. [CONFIRMED]
HyperDrive: Interested in getting your car on a race track, but are still worried about making the investment in the HPDE program? No problem – HyperDrive is your answer! For $40, anyone can show up, sign up, put on a free loaner helmet and drive around the race track at Firebird Raceway for 20-minutes to get the feet wet and see what track driving is all about. While onsite registration will be available, it is highly encouraged to pre-register as spots are expected to sell out fast. https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1090

Westside Phoenix: We will be meeting at Westgate for 9am. Please be there 5-10 minutes prior as we will be leaving by 9am on the dot to meet with the Eastside crew at the Marina for 10am. Parking is going to be the last row of the AMC movie theater parking lot closest to Glendale Ave. Please contact 06AZREX, our westside organizer, if you have any questions or comments.
Eastside Phoenix: We will be meeting at the Marina @ 10am. Here the Westsiders and the Eastsiders will be leaving the Marina by 10:30am at the latest to be at FIR for 11am. I also figured meeting at 10am would be good since im sure some people are going to be interested in taking a few pictures of the entire Phoenix crew. When we leave we will be taking a right onto the 202 heading west to the 143 and then to the 10 all the way to FIR. Please contact evolved, our eastisde organizer, if you have any questions or comments.
Track location and designated parking:
From Phoenix Metro area and points West, follow Interstate 10 to exit 162 (Wild Horse Pass) and follow the signs for Firebird International Raceway.
From Tucson and points East, go north on Interstate 10 to exit 163 (Queen Creek Rd.) take Queen Creek Rd. west 1/2 mile and make right hand turn onto Wild Horse Pass (Maricopa Rd.) OR take NEW exit 162 (Wild Horse Pass) and follow the signs to Firebird International Raceway.

NASAAZ - AZ AWD Has Strong Presence
Arizona AWD (aka. AZAWD.org) brought out seventy cars from their club to take over the car show lot and win the award of “Biggest showing of AWD cars in Arizona, at one time, probably ever!” Most of the cars consisted of the popular Subaru WRX, STi and various generations of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions. There were a few AWD Subaru Foresters, Legacys and even the token Nissan 350Z, pretending to be part of the club. A big thanks to the AZAWD guys and girls for coming out and supporting the night!
