Temp Permit - out of state buying from Calif
I read somewhere that if Im buying a vehicle in California, I have to pay sales / use tax at the Calif DMV for them to issue temp driving permit for transporting the vehicle out of state. Is there any truth to this ? Is a temp registration required for driving the vehicle back home out of state ? I spoke to the Calif DMV and the lady said as long as I have the title signed over and a bill of sale, thats all I need. She sounded a little unsure.... anyone here have a link to the rules ?

I live in Maine, and bought my X in Mass. I didnt have to pay anything to the state of Mass. All I needed was a transportation tag from Maine in order to drive it back home. Then when I registered it I paid my sales tax, and everything to Maine. I would assume that it would work the same for every state. I also did this when I bought my IX in New Hampshire, and I paid nothing to NH, just had to get a transportation tag from Maine.

the problem is my state only issues temp insurance and I am supposed to use the temp insurance to get a temp permit from the state Im buying it from in this case, california..... I know most states issue a temp tag anywhere from 5 to 20 bucks, but California has a different set of rules so Im hoping someone who has purchased a vehicle specifically in California can chime in. thanks.

I found something called a one trip permit that is good for One Continuous trip from CA to another state.
But the permit also states that
"The vehicle has not been driven, moved, towed, parked or left standing on public streets or highways so as to cause fees to become due "
Kinda seems contradictory to me. What exactly does "cause fees to become due" mean ? How exactly can one make a trip without driving, moving, towing etc ?
